Korg Krome Reboots or Goes Black during performances

Post by wheresgrant »

I've owned this Krome for 18 months. I got it used in a trade for some other gear. For a year it seemed to work fine but this winter I had an issue where the Krome would randomly go BLACK or reboot in the middle of a performance. Usually when the keybed is played a little more aggressively. That anomaly has now leaked into my gig performances. The other night I'm in the middle of a song when all of the sudden... no sound, screen black. We know how long this synth takes to boot. The band is playing away and I'm scrambling to pull up similar patches on other boards. I've used several different power supplies and it happens with each one. There must be a short in the wiring near the upper register of the key bed (It seems to happen above C4) I have recently bought a Kronos (just haven't had time to create new patches to replace the Krome yet). Still I'm shocked at this shoddy build quality. It's a little ridiculous reading all of the problems with this board on this forum and others. I also own a Fantom FA-06 and comparing the two from a reliability standard seems to be no competition. The FA has performed flawlessly. It also takes seconds to boot. I prefer the Krome because I'm much more familar with the OS and editing (former Triton owner). Anyone else experience this?

Not with the Krome, specifically, but had something similar with an M50. The power connector on the power in board needed resoldering. The clue came when wiggling the power lead caused it to power cycle.

From experience I have learned to not buy used keyboards. I have had frustrating results. Never again.
