Free Steinberg Halion Sonic SE

Post by Ksynth »

https://www.steinberg.net/en/landing_pa ... _free.html

The download / install requires registration (the install is complex and close attention is important).

Once installed there is no content that I can find. I guess you are required to make your own or buy their packs etc

Its standalone and VST as well.

Anyone had success with importing any content?

i think they offered the player as the kontakt player as they feature scripting in halion 6 .. so later on if their project succeeds as kontat they would expect third party to offer their own libraries that work on halion player .. it still a bit early to see contents from third party

The difference with the Kontakt player is that it runs in demo mode with libraries that are not licensed through NI. I, like many other developers, have sound libraries that then require the full version of Kontakt. It appears this free player from Steinberg does not have this restriction, so I could redo my stuff in Halion and people could use it without having to purchase the full version of Halion. And I wouldn't have to enter into an expensive licensing arrangement with Steinberg, hence I can keep my pricing low.

It only needs some software registration. The process can be confusing but its free to do so.

I think it is free even without Cubase.

Just that you need to buy Steinbergs content or 3rd party stuff.

It's free, and it works pretty well.
