Expert advice needed please

Hi, my first post and I have a question for those who have been using Korg for a long time. I have a bedroom recording setup and I'm looking for an older synth with a nice feel to the keyboard and as realistic sounding GM patch set as possible. I dont need a sequencer or effects but it has to be multitimbral and if possible 48 voice. A rompler I think. I need good strings for solo and orchestral, brass, Bass, accordion, harmonica etc. I play irish Traditional flute and this is to add something different to my recording. I don't need a Module... need the keyboard. Any suggestions would be appreciated. There are so many models of Korg all capable of different things that I'm not sure what I should look for.

Hi and Welcome.
Perhaps a Triton Rack is what you are after? I'd have said an M1 but they all come with sequencers, no matter the variant.

It looks like they all come with sequencers, thats okay, i just thought there would be a stripped down version of the M1 as you suggest that would be more affordable. I dont need a rack module. I do need the keyboard and connectivity with other modules i have. The good realistic GM sound set gives me choice and a different sound than roland, thanks

M1's are pretty easy to come by, just gotta watch out for dead buttons. Oh yeah, the M1 is only 8 part multitimbral; 32 parts shy of your want's, but that said, the soundtrack for "Akira" was done on one (and the "Akira" rom cards are one of the most sort-after still). Also, go to YouTube and have a listen to an M1 user demo. The M1 has a very 80's sound (despite them arriving late in the decade) and in retrospect, is very unrealistic even though at the time certain sounds were the best you could get. Seinfeld's slap-bass theme song and incidentals are an M1, for example. One thing I can guarantee is if you get one, you will spend a good deal of time at first auditioning patches and going "Wow, that's that sound!"

Does it have to be old? Depending on your tastes in keybeds, you may find that a recent Krome is OK for your purposes. They have sounds that would have been a wet dream in 1990, for a price that is quite reasonable, and the touchscreen is quite usable.

Thanks for the all the advise. I will condider the dated sounds on the M1 and have a look at the Krome first. Cheers
