Replicating two different Kronos - custom samples missing

Post by darrylh »

I have a Kronos 2 and an original Kronos (1). Both are 88 keys. They are in different geographic locations.

I need to replicate the setups including the SAMPLES (all custom) from the 2 onto the 1. I'm not worried about the Berlin piano and new sound banks that were included in the 2. I don't use them.

I backed up the 2 via FTP, and copied all those files and directories onto the 1 (also via FTP). I then replicated the startup KSC auto load screen from the 2 on the 1.

It won't autoload my KSC because it can't find the samples! Even though I've replicated the file locations exactly.

Can anyone shed light on this?

I’m doing the same however I duplicated the K1 into the K2. This is because there are samples in the 2 that cannot be duplicated in another Kronos due to licensing.

I too use custom samples. I looked at the auto startup and made sure those samples were transferred. I did a save all and copied that to the 2 which copies all the progs, combos, drums, global etc.

Now, I make edits at home, save programs and bring to church. If I add any new samples, I would copy those and add them to the startup, or just copy the global.

You may be experiencing the problem of trying to share samples like the Berlin grand with another Kronos which isn’t allowed with our purchasing another copy.

Duplicating 2 to 1 (not 1 to 2)

Post by darrylh »

Thx for the info. I can't use your methodology because my Kronos 2 has almost 9 months of programming more than the 1. The 2 is up to date, the remote location 1 is not.

I do "save all" every time, but custom samples always seem to be an issue.

The 1 is telling me it can't find the custom samples, even though the data and directories are exactly the same as my 2. All the hard drive contents of 2 were FTP'd to the root dir of the 1. It's a mystery.

Anyone else have any solutions?

Custom sample management is not very easy on the Kronos and I still struggle with it. I once had the problem that I had made many "save all's". Every time I had given the save files new names. Problem was that the Kronos didn't in fact save new sample banks but made references to older sample banks. You might want to check if you did the same thing. In that case, copying these older sample banks as well to the other Kronos might do the trick.

If you are interested, the story is in this thread.

I've encountered someone who had the same issue transferring files via FTP where samples weren't being read. Try using a regular USB Stick to copy files from one Kronos to another.
