New OS in either Feb/Mar 2 gig sampling.

Post by Xx_Joey_xX »

Hello All

Here is the word that I'm getting

New pa4x OS to be released in the next couple of months (Valiar)
One of the main features of the update is expanding the sample memory to 2 gigs. My guess would be they're reparationing the internal HD and are probably gonna stream samples similar to Kronos.

From?

Antony S made some reference to it recently but I took it as a joke as it was followed by a " " in his message.

They definitely won't do anything with HD !
I have already explained that HD in PaSeries works as a packet protocol USB 2 (converter Sata to USB) , motherboard
do not support SATA port that's why a fast external USB 3 flash drive is equal or faster than internal HD !
Therefore , without essential hardware changes , streaming from very slow "USB" port can't be done and custom samples
streaming mode will work exactly as with factory resources ... using on board remaining flash memory , that is
approximately 2 GB and this size will be the maximum that can be addressed in streaming mode from there , unlike Kronos
that can use up to 50 GB of streamed samples directly from SSD !
This mode normally will be supported by default also in Pa1000 , with lower memory capacity < 1GB !

Pete , do you see me often making jokes ? the announcement will be too earlier !

Hi,

the internal HD and as well the external USB-Ports a USB 2.0

Max USB 2.0 Speed ist 480 MBit/s = 60 MByte / s. Lets subtract 10-15% for overhead, so the max realistic speed is 50 MByte / s. ANY HD on the market can reach a higher speed...

Even if you put an 3.0 USB-Stick into the external connectors you won´t get a higher speed. Most USB 3.0 Sticks are much slower, especially the cheaper ones ;)

BTW: I´ve got a SSD instead a HD in my PA4XM, that isn´t ( due to the above explained speed limitations ) faster than a HD. but it´s noiseless and not sensitive regarding shocks ;)

I'm not arguing on the technical specs.
I know that PA4X Music Gear Edition is getting this update.
Now, Maybe they're compressing samples? But the word is this update is coming. It's from KORG so wont make any sense for them to release such an update for pa4x music gear edition only. Has to be applied on all pa4x models.

Thanks for everbody. My English is a little poor to understand theese technical terminologies.
Please could someone shortly answer?

1- Will new OS release for only pa4x MG?
2- what are the changes between last OS and coming new OS?
3- what do you think about user RAM? Will it stay same for us?

Thanks for answering from now on. Sorry broken English...

If KORG increase PA4X sample memory then user sound banks must be increased too!!

Hello
So, this new "VAILAR OS" is for real or just a fake news?
