Last week I took my Korg M50 to an electrical engineer to solve the freezing problem, I knew the problem and he had repaired many korg main boards and I knew the procedure. replaced two capacitors (the same as indicated on the page of korg) and made reballing in the welds. Problem solved, my Korg M50 is new again

la semana pasada lleve mi Korg M50 donde un ingeniero electrico para solucionar el problema de congelamiento, el conocia del problema y habia reparado muchas main boards de korg y conocía el procedimiento. remplazo dos capacitores (los mismos que indican en la pagina de korg) y realizó reballing en las soldaduras. Problema resuelto, mi Korg M50 quedo como nuevo.

The service bulletin makes the recommendation to replace capacitors with a low ESR type supplied by Korg and not substitute any other capacitor. There will be alternatives out there, but any alternative would need to be chosen with care.

I fixed my keyboard myself. I had not turned it on for years and upon trying to play for the first time for Christmas, it quickly froze. So clearly and age related problem, not duration of use.
Here is what I did:
Be prepared for an impressive amount of screws.
Here is what I did:
- 1. I soldered a second low resistance 100 uF SMD cap in parallel to the existing C37. (didn't take the existing one out).
2. Cleaned up the gobs of flux residue on the PCB and remelted all contacts covered by the flux. Leftover flux corrodes solder joints!
Be prepared for an impressive amount of screws.
