KORG X50 POLYPHONY V ROLAND

HI I'm a newbie so please show grace to my ignorance!.

I have had an X50 for a while and love the sounds and have mixed my own combos successfully. I don't think I EVER had an issue with polyphony, 4-5 voices layered with pads and strings. But I find the interface tricky and recently looked at a Roland PA 06 - sounds not as good in my view but terrible polyphony!

Why would this be? Only 3 sounds layered and I lost notes.

Also - am I right in saying the Kross replaced the X50 - more or less?
