need help in making a sample work in e2s as the source synth

Post by Idagani »

Hello,

I am building a sample library to use in my e2s,
I have a friend who has the diva vst, we found a cool lead sound and
decided to record a short sample of the dry sound in C3, then imported it into the e2s and played it,
the sample sound identical on both, however where I start playing it on the electribe it doesn't behave as it does on diva.
I think that when playing it the filter cutoff changes and maybe something else.

I uploaded to short samples of both e2s and diva :

diva

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DJZ2eB ... sp=sharing

electribe

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1uv-y3n ... sp=sharing

I know diva is a much more complex synth but I still would like to get as close as possible to the original.

Could you please listen to both and try to help me figure out if I can make it "behave" closer to diva.

Thanks :-)

It sounds like the filter envelope attack is modulated on the Diva, possibly by velocity. Sometimes the filter is opening more quickly. The electribe doesn't have velocity as a modulation source. You could route MIDI via a computer and use note velocity to modulate envelope attack CC. You could try changing the polyphony setting. One of them (i forget which) prevents the envelope from re-triggering when playing legato. This may sound similar to modulating the attack time.

thanks for the reply,
not sure I fully understood the 'you could route midi through a computer and use note velocity to modulate envelope attack CC',
could you please clarify

Send MIDI out of electribe into computer.

Send MIDI out of computer into electribe.

On the computer, use note on velocity to modulate cc 73 (envelope attack).

You could do this using puredata, you may find a plugin in a DAW.

ok, got you, thanks, I'll try it out.

If this works, that means I have to use a daw / computer,
whole point in getting the e2s was that I want to try and avoid the daw / work only with the e2s.

Guess I have to be realistic about the e2s (not sound good as Diva or other good vst's),
so maybe I should try to work with the e2 (synth version) and program it to get close to some sounds I'm interested in
(like the 1st preset in the korg polysix plugin - called fat line bass),
do you have any experience in that ?

Thanks :-)

You could also just motion sequence the envelope attack, if you want to get the sound when the pattern plays back. It just wont respond like that to velocity when playing live.

thanks that's brilliant !!!
how to do ableton live's automation lane manually on Korg Electribe,
might be good for side chaining too

now I just need to learn how to program sounds on this thing,
I am used to the more typical multi oscillator setup on my VA
where you can combine different oscillators with different wave-forms
which I think is not possible on it, but less might be more.
Is there any good tutorial on programming sounds in YouTube or somewhere else ?

I don't know if you can do in Ableton but in Maschine I can link different parts and play simultaneously. Often I have different oscillator with different modulation play as one.
