Effects not working - How can I check global setting ?

Can someone explain how to lock and unlock the Xfs as I need some help....

As usual the Korg manual does not really explain unless you know what you were doing in the first place.

How do I tell if the effect lock in the Global Settings is working or not ?

Is there any other setting that may be preventing the effects built in to a sampled sounds from working ?

Any help including instructions through the Korg Pa4x menus would be greatly appreciated
