Watch out for Windows Update!

Post by timg11 »

I happened to see mention of this important news item at Korg.com via twitter.
We strongly advise you not to update your operating system until further notice.
That's a pretty clear warning. I guess they can't come right out and say "our drivers are broken by this update and we don't know when or if we will have a fix"

Unfortunately Microsoft only allows updates to be delayed by 7 days at a time, so keep a careful watch.

Still I continue to update Windows 10 and... ... ...both Korg driver and DAW continue to work : fine

This makes me think that it is not Korg nor Windows who are "faulty" but maybe only the lack of ingenuity from som DAW makers

So you installed May 2020? When you run WINVER, you see "Version 2004"?
It would be great if the drivers in DrvTools(115_r35e).exe continue to work properly with the Kronos with the Windows Update installed.

Please share your results with us! You should also share your findings with Korg (I don't think Dan checks in here much anymore) Maybe there are certain configurations that are OK.

WINDOWS 10
Version 1909 - (18363.836)

Since I have made the little correction (many other Kronos users have made it too) into the Korg Driver, all works absolutely fine since months between my Kronos and Sequoia15 (DAW) .
The sync works perfectly well and even if sometimes they are much plugins for each track and even also when there are many, so many audio tracks running in the same time.
I just push start button on the kronos for each of the 16 midi + audio tracks fo the Kronos and Sequoia start to record perfectly in sync with the other traks already recorded into it.
I cannot say more : All works perfectly

I'm assuming you mean the article you referenced last year to help with issues resulting from the 2019 Windows 10 Updates.

I used that procedure too, and I'm still trying to figure out when I lost the ability to use Kronos MIDI from multiple Windows apps. It might have been at that time, but I'm not completely sure.

Can you try accessing Kronos MIDI from two Windows programs concurrently? Does the driver "share" or does the second app fail?

I am uploding right now the V2004 - May 2020 update : I will tell you if things are going normal, better, or worse concerning the Korg driver and its relation with Sequoia. As soon as possible.

Thanks again.

addendum :

I only use the Kronos and Sequoia 15 with VST effects (Waves11) and VSTi lke Reaktor6 and so many many others.
I don't need more !!!! :D

I don't use 2 windows app in the same time so I will not exactly answer to your question concerning this point.

I just got the Windows 10 update 2004 in ISO format (4,92 Go), but, no, I won't install it.
Because a lot of critics have pointed out its many flaws.
So : I wait for a better version.

On June 19th, Korg posted an update

No fix, just clearly stating that if you allow Windows to update, you lose the Kronos Editor. It looks like you'd have to roll back to Windows 8 for full functionality.

Rather shocking to see that about 75% of Korg's products are either "investigating this problem," "under examination," or "End Of Support" with the current version of Windows.

I don't use Apple, but how are Mac users doing with Catalina and the Kronos? A similar story?

yes, not surprising.

Us Mac users are not 'forced ' to update to whatever OSX version. Sure, it can be 'automatic' but that is simply a 'choice'.

I get promoted to update my OS every day. My answer to that prompt is
" Tomorrow "

Hello Timg11,

Hélas I don't use any Kronos editor.
But of what Korg editor are you talking about ? PGTools ? or another ?

And could you please remind the problem concerning these editors with the upgrade of the Windows 10 v2004 ?

Thanks & Regards
