Towards the Sun combi on Kronos 2

Post by Technobob13 »

Hi all

Having recently moved up to a Kronos 2 61 from an M3 61, I came across in the forum Stephen Kay's PCG of his Towards the Sun Karmafied combi, the initial patch of the M3 - BEAUTIFUL. So I imagined "Great, I can now hear it on my Kronos 2" :)

WRONG!

The patches are all incorrect, including the drums etc. I have tried remapping the combi programs to what they should be on the K2, but I've given up as several of the programs are not on the K2 :(

Has anyone got a version that works on the K2?

Thanks in advance...

Bob

Hi Bob, as we know, the M3 and Kronos are quite different.

I use Kronos drums in my songs , often Karma enhanced.

To analyze, the diffs in this Combi, might be the pattern, plus what Karma does to the drum pattern. Which is why 'remapping ' does not work , is my guess.

If you like, post the M3 Combi on SoundCloud [ your choice]. Then isolate a 2nd recording of the drum track so I can hear it and analyze it, from a Kronos point of view.

Stephen at Karma Labs likely will have a solution. Try there.

Thanks for that Greg.

However, lockdown has meant lots more time to spend on projects, and I was determined this would not beat me!!

After a good night's sleep (!) I returned to the Kronos and loaded the PCG file into PCG Tools - the problem was that the PCG file only had the program references that made up the combi, not the program names! So, after downloading ALL the voice lists for every Kronos version, I searched through all the permutations of each reference in each generation's list and fed them into different versions of the combi in the Kronos. PATIENTLY!

Eventually, I think I've found a pretty good version, not exactly the same as the original M3 version, but close!

So, it was frustration really that made me write this post originally (and working into the small hours!); so with sleep, a bit of patience and a smidgen of bloody mindedness, I really feel a sense of accomplishment! Also made me painfully aware of how much time and effort went into creating these amazing combis in the first place!

Right, I'm off for a lie down in a darkened room

excellent ! I hear exactly what you are saying

Almost every day, I have a particular sound or song issue. Almost always I have to sleep on it, comeback the next day and try a different approach.

My latest ongoing challenge is dealing with audio files, getting them to play nice in the SEQ. Its almost ridiculous how many hours I fight with this stuff.

That combi data is likely for the old Program order of the Kronos, before version 2, which is why it wouldn't load correctly. If there was an option to "convert program order" when loading that data, perhaps it would have fixed it? I don't really have time to look into it...

I like the 'old Program order '. Its a nostalgia thing ;)

I can test your [old] K1 PCG if you like. I bet it worked for us K1 owners.
