No matter which file type of them I choose, it says "The avatar filetype must be .jpg, .gif or .png" every single time. My files are 64x64 pixels and under 10 kb.
Edit: with URL it says "A connection could not be made to the URL you gave", but the image displays fine in the browser.

Upload function doesn't work, so to use a personalised avatar you need to host the image somewhere. I like to use imgbb.com but the are many out there. Once you have done that and have the direct link url, go to your profile edit page and put the direct link url into the appropriate text input box ("Upload Avatar from a URL:"). All done!
