I think the reissues are done to extend the patent thus keeping Behringer from reissuing it. Roland is protecting their 80's intellectual property too.

Bring your own effects is interesting.

Don't know about that, Behringer copies circuit schematics which can not be patented. It is how Uli started and how he wasn't successfully sued by Mackie.
I've seen somewhere that Behringer's clones are actually stimulating the desire for the originals. The price of the originals they are cloning isn't dropping and there is very much a group of musicians who want the genuine products and likely not to buy a clone for the simple fact that it is a clone. If companies who are still operating were to ignore that market, it would mean they are ignoring an income source.

Stuff I'm using: Umm right now, well there's a Volca Drum, a Micro Freak, an ADX-1, a Pulse, a Blofeld, a UNO Drum, KeyStep/Beatstep Pro/Keystep Pro (one of each), a Circuit, a LiveTrak L-12 and this nonsense: The Brief-case as it was about a bit over a year ago (the the complete ridiculous GAS monster collection here)and here

You have a Kronos 2, Fantom 6 and Moog One and complain about prices?
That's funny. ;)
I'll wait for Behringers.
End january Behringer release Pro 800, which is a 8 voice replica of Prophet 600 which is just 6 voice - at $600.

A must have...
MIDI gear: Sequential REV2.16, Prologue-8, Hammond XK-3C, Kawai MP7SE piano, Nord Lead 2X, Roland D-05

You can't "extend" a patent. Period. 20 years. That's it.

It is an exciting topic that you decided to touch on. I currently use Volca Drum, Micro Freak, ADX-1, Pulse, Blofeld, UNO Drum, KeyStep/Beatstep Pro/Keystep Pro (one each), Circuit, LiveTrak L-12. These are pretty handy things to use, pretty easy to learn how to operate and work with. One of my friends from "patent translation services" once suggested another exciting program, The Brief-case, as it was about a bit over a year ago (the completely ridiculous GAS monster collection here. So I advise you to understand the flow of information from different Internet sources and make the right choice.

Yes the Prophet 5 / 10 are high priced but your'e paying for very high quality when you purchase a Dave Smith Instrument, and well worth the cost. Korg is fantastic but Dave Smith is another level all together and if you are into exploring sounds to the maximum then it's worth having a Prophet or a Rev.

Don't think Behringer could ever replicate a Prophet and you just wouldn't want them too.
