MIDI Sync with Key Trg

Post by Raul_Mendiratta »

Hi! I've noticed that in the Korg Monologue when it is in Key Trg mode and synced to MIDI clock it doens't do the step resolution as it does when it is synced with the jack in. Why is that?

MIDI clock and Sync clock are different parameters. MIDI clock resolution is set under SEQ EDIT, while Sync In and Sync Out resolutions are individually set under GLOBAL EDIT.

I haven't found the MIDI clock resolution in the manual... Where is that parameter?

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear.
What I looking for is the same function as the paremeter Sync In Unit that appears on page 41, but for syncing with MIDI instead of the Sync in jack. When I sync the monologue with the sync in jack, it only plays or 1/16 ahead or behind but with MIDI that's arbitary, it just receives the clock and when you trigger it plays at that time without quantize what you played. I don't know if I'm being clear.

Oh, I see what you mean. The term you are looking for is quantization. It turns out that when using MIDI sync the tempo is sync-locked, but the notes are not quantized, so you have to hit them right on the beat, in order to get the effect that you expect.

Yeah I realized that playing live  . But, there is quantization when it synced with the jack, so why not in midi also?

Because sync clock (jack) runs at either 2 or 4 pulses per quarter note, so it's "naturally quantized" to the running sequencer steps, while MIDI clock runs at 24 PPQN, which gives you a lot more "starting points" to trigger the notes in between actual sequencer steps. Does that make sense to you?

Oh ok! I understand now! It would be nice to implement a feature that mimics the quantization that happens when it's sync by jack :)
Thank you for taking the time to clarify my doubts! :)
