Volca Sample 2 MIDI OUT to controll VST?

Hey everyone.

Would it be possible to assign steps and notes on volca, connect it through USB cable to a DAW (Ableton Live), assign it to a MIDI channel then put an VST, lets say, Omnisphere and control it via Volca like a sequencer (different notes, beats etc.)

The way I am doing it now is that it's just outputting pulses but it does not trigger any notes on the VST, just beat-like rythm that was set up on Volca Sample 2.

Can it control also notes that should be played out to the VST with the FUNC+KEY+SPEED KNOB in the STEP MODE?

Hopefully soneone will get the idea what I want to accomplish.
