Which is the current state of Wavestate? (no pun intended)

Post by killkrt »

Hi,

I spent last days watching Wavestate video reviews and I am really tempted to buy one, but I have still some doubts since I cannot find a firmware changelog, so I am not sure if some of the limitations mentioned in old reviews still apply.

I am wondering if it is (now) possible:
  • - Import of custom samples?
    - Tag/star/organize presets?
    - Create sequence bigger than 16 steps?
    - Song mode?
    - I read that a PC companion app is now available, which are its features?
Furthermore I would like to know your overall opinion about using Wavestate in live sessions (genre: ambient, industrial, noise)

Thank you

Import of custom samples?
- No.

Tag/star/organize presets?
- The Wavestate organizes presets using an unlimited number of "Set Lists" which you can organize however you like. Having used this functionality extensively over many hours during this weekend to both categorize and "favorite" dozens of presets over several such "Set Lists", I can safely say that this feature provides all the organizing that I personally could reasonably want. Perhaps some users haven't realized you just hold down Write and (1-16) to quickly and easily store the current sound into a slot the current Set List? You can also hold Shift+Write+(1-4) to choose the Set List Bank first. You can also freely flip and scroll between Set Lists without losing your current edit. This is an effective and highly flexible organizing system.

Create sequence bigger than 16 steps?
- It's 64 steps (and always has been)

Song mode?
- I can't see such a feature ever being implemented - it is not that kind of sequencer. The Wave Sequencer is designed for evolving sounds and rippling arpeggios. True, you can program drum rhythms into it if you really want to, but that's kind of a fun hack and not really the central use case.

I read that a PC companion app is now available, which are its features?
- It's just a librarian for the presets etc.
