HELP - Moving Midifile from HD to Songbook

Post by Giner »

Hi guys. I have a midifile for a song on the hard drive that I want to put into Songbook. I also have this midi on USB-F, so transferring it from there to Songbook would work also. Can someone give me a step-by-step on how to do this? Thanks in advance.

Hi Giner - its been a while so nice to see you are still about.
Now you know that the Songbook can't actually contain midi files - right?
Same for Styles too. All it can contain is pointers to where the midi file or style is.
So assuming your hard disk is organised (in other words you have a folder in it called myMidis or something like that (you can create folders with the dropdown menu) and you have copied your midi to there, then simply navigate to your midi via Player1 in Songplay Mode then go to Songbook and set it up with your STS's.

Thanks for getting back so quick - trust all's well with you.

Okay, so I created a folder (mymidis) and, yea, there's the file. Opened it up, did a couple of tweaks, opened up Songbook but the song's not there. Did I miss a step? Cheers, Giner

Yeah I left out a few steps.
Once midi is loaded then,
Songbook button,
Edit Book 1 Tab,
New Song,
Tick either *All Current Styl STS's or *Current STS
(doesn't really matter because you can edit STS's later)
Write,
Amend name if entry (if you want)
OK

If you want to change the Master Trranspose (play in a different key) use Edit Book 2 (here you can also add additional info like Artist/Genre. I put my initials as artist so I can filter the Songbook via Artist so that only my Songs appear in the list.

Drill down to your midi via Player 1 while in Songplay Mode.
Then go to Songbook, Edit Book 1 to create the Songbook entry.

Thank you very much, John. I use very little in the way of midis, but I had muddled my way through this process before and had completely forgotten what I'd done before. I'll be sure to keep your replies here for future reference. Thanks again. All the best.
