Transpose Song but Not Keyboard

Post by keyboardbill »

I have several midi files that I need to transpose a bit but I do not want to transpose the keyboard as well. In sequence mode, I can transpose the midi file but it also transpose the keyboard. I need to only transpose one, not both. This allows me to play the keyboard in a more comfortable key.

Roland has this feature (on my EA7) and hoping Korg has a similar feature that I have not been able to find.

Suggestions appreciated.

Cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill

Hmmmm I really get what you are asking but it seems that you can transpose the song and not the keyboard but not the other way around.
(See Global Tuning options)

That feature would be nice

Music score and transposition
The Score page shows the actual MIDI notes. Using the TRANSPOSE buttons
or transposing the selected track does not affect the music score.

Chord transposition
When transposing the Song, chord symbols will usually be automatically
transposed. However, be sure Transpose is activated on the Player.
Activate chord transposition on the Player
1 Go to the Global > Tuning > Transpose Control page.
2 Activate Transpose on the Player.
You might want to transpose the chords data in a MIDI Song, by using the
Transpose edit function in Sequencer mode

I think Bill wants to use a song (MP3 or MIDI) and not transpose its key but wants to transpose just the keyboard (keys) in order to play along in a more comfortable key. Unfortunately you can't do this on the P1000 or my PA4X (Well, so far, I can't find a way.....)

You can transpose the song and not the keys though but this can mess with the song and possible cause a problem if singing along too.

(Hope I've understood correctly Bill)

What you did with common settings parameters "Key" of Makeup Tools for SMFs with Roland EA7 (transposing all song parts except the drums up to 12 semitones) you can do with Pa-Arrangers "Transposing" (see Manual "Customizing, recording and editing the SongsPa-arrangers").

With your SMFs in sequencer mode use Song Edit > Transpose page.
Use track parameter "All" to select all tracks apart for the tracks set in Drum mode (like the Drum and Percussion tracks).
Use parameter "Value" to transpose in +/- 127 semitones.

Select the Include chords checkbox if you want to also transpose the Chord events.

To avoid transposing for special events also selective transpose can be used for transposing notes under/above selected notes (RX Noises) or before/end of selected positions.

Thank you for the replies and directions. I'll give them a try in the next few days.

I really like the PA1000 - sounds are really good and lots of control available.

Transpose SMF-tracks Pa1000

I too would like the Pa1000 because of its good sounds.

But the functions of the style player have been so limited compared to previous models (Pa800 / 500) that Pa1000 therefore is unusable for me as a style player!

Would be easy to change if Korg would try to update it as it was done with Pa4x, which originally was delivered with same limited styleplay functions.

Thank You Mr. Siebenhirter! Your suggestion works perfectly!

I was not aware of the Song Edit mode so you have helped me greatly.

Hope you have a great day.
