Listen to the recorded Style without re-recording?

Post by unjazz »

How do you listen to the recorded style, within style record mode, without inadvertently re-recording a track? Because there's always a current track, which limits the keyboard sound to that track sound - and the current track is either armed or muted, meaning you are either recording that particular track when you press START/STOP or if you mute, that track no longer plays. This makes it impossible to play general piano chords to test the style you are creating. I'm having to constantly exit style record/edit mode to audition and test the style properly.

Yet on page 233 of the P700 user manual, it clearly says that you can stay in Style/Pad Record mode to test drive the style.
Testing chords
While in Style/Pad Record, the keyboard can play chords to drive the record- ed musical patterns, and a piano sound to help you test the patterns.

Listening to the results
1 Press the START/STOP button to check how the musical pattern works.
2 Play a chord, and test the patterns.
3 Press START/STOP again to stop playback.
Am baffled!

This does work perfectly but the manual is a little misleading - yes you can audition your STYLE whilst in STYLE EDIT mode but you cannot (for obvious reasons as you stated) do it whilst in the STYLE RECORD screen - just switch to any other "STYLE EDIT" MENU section and it works perfectly. It will never work in the STYLE RECORD screen because (as you say) you will be recording an active track.

Hope this helps
