Wow that's a bombshell. Vangelis created an electronic musical style that likely influenced us all. Whether as a soundtrack or standalone music you could always recognize it as Vangelis. Many tried to replicate it, which some did quite well. Here was my meager attempt, in memoriam, with appreciation https://soundcloud.com/user-353992699/abled-jogger

A true maverick genius (he was invited to join Yes but they knew he would never be tamed and work in a band context).

Master of such wonderful organic textures from the CS80. He truly knew how to get best out his instruments in a why I never will as I spread myself too thinly.

And composer of the greatest film sound track ever. No, not Chariots of Fire, but Bladerunner. Highly debatable of course.

Loved his work with Jon Anderson in Jon and Vangelis, and of course his prodigious solo output.

I first heard his music on Karl Sagan's Cosmos and the whole package of science, visuals (great for the time) and music mesmerised me as a 15 year old
