New MS-20 Mini owner! Seeking feedback on noise floor

Post by kaveman »

Seeking feedback from other owners on my noise bleed levels as I know some units are worse. Does mine sound average? Or is it particularly bad and I should replace it?

In this test video, with just VCO 1, I cycle through wave forms and octave ranges while sweeping the low pass filter. Sustain level on EG2 is 10, while everything else is zeroed. MS20 mini signal out is going into my Focusrite interface and audio was recorded in Ableton.

Again, just wanting to know if this sounds average or not. I don’t think I’ll often play the MS20 Mini solo or dry, and in a mix or with effects the noise will be much less audible. Additionally, I already see that light EQ-ing will eliminate most of the noise. There are also situations where the noise will be welcome in the mix.

What do you think?

The MS-20mini used the MK1 filter, and as such has more noise that the
MK2 filter found on the Original MK2, MS-20Kits/M/FS.
