Sample Sounds From PA4X Do Not Load After PA5X Import - Help

Post by taki »

To All,

Using PA manager, I created a simple PA4X set where I created a PA4X SET for only sounds that have samples to them.

I then Import that Set through the PA5X to make the PA4X set to a PA5X set, per instructions on youtube and in the manual.

I then go to load the sounds, again that have multisamples for one sound, and nothing gets loaded.

using the same PA4X I created in PA manager, I plug in USB and load the sound to a position that I have free, and the sound gets loaded.

in other words, the PA Manager seemed to do its thing, when loading that set with the PA4X.

SO, is there anything that I am missing that someone could help me out with. btw, these samples are NOT locked in any way.

I appreciate any guidance.

Thanks,

Taki

As first load this SET in a Pa4X with latest OS , save it only as SAMPLES , SOUND & KEYBOARDSET and then import created SET in Pa5X.

Antony,

Thanks for response.. I do not understand exactly what you are saying..

Are you saying I should load those sounds to the PA4X and then save as a set again to USB from the PA4X, and then import that file using the PA5X?

Yep , Pa5X recognize the exact format and headers of Pa4X and not any third party editors !
Also the way that multisamples are organized and saved is also important , for instance a Pa800 SET migrated to Pa4X ,
also might not work properly in Pa5X !
In case of only samples contents , you'd better open converted KST folder click and load only SOUND & KEYBOARDSET folders.

Hope this helps

Antony,

Thank you for your post. It took me a while, but I finally spent 2-3 hours to do this entire process to test how to transfer sounds from PCM and sounds from Multisamples from my PA4X to the PA5X.

This is the process I followed - for clarification:

1) I used Korg PA Manger to create a PA4X set where I only saved/moved sounds to it, only.. no rhythm patterns
2) I saved the set from software as a PA4X set.

The reason why I did this is because I have many sounds from other PA4X sets that I used to create a custom new PA4X set with all the sounds I want to load to the PA5X - plus these sounds are sounds Ithat are not protected too.

3) I then loaded the PA4X file/set to the PA4X - made sure the sounds got loaded
4) I then resaved it as another name to a USB with all the sounds - as you suggested above
5) Then , when I import that PA4X saved file using the PA5X- but after 1/2 hour, I get the import error.

Even if I did something wrong in this process, this takes way too long..

I have been a Korg user all my life... I have never been more disappointed with Korg than I am right now... I waited over 6 months to get the PA5x... Now, a common sense functionality cannot be done.... after paying almost $5K....

I am very tempted to sell back with a loss..

I need Korg to tell us they will fix this soon.. offer a rebate or money back for us frustrated users.. or I am returning the PA5X and getting the Yamaha...

I would appreciate a response from Korg.

Antony, again thanks for your help, but as an engineer myself, this product that was sent out of Korg, in my opinion, shows how much Korg really does not care as much for their customer as making money...

This issue needs to be resolved ASAP.

As first , try to do the following with Pa4X to see if all your custom samples are valid :
- Go to Pa4X/SOUND/Record/delete all samples & multisamples.
- Using Pa4X , open previously saved Pa4X.SET / click on SOUND folder and load contents !
- This is the only way to discover if you have samples issues and if no window of "not all samples are loaded" appears then all samples are valid.
If not , then you have to heal first samples contents else you will never manage to load them in Pa5X , and this is not Pa5X bug !

If above test has finished with no issues , then duplicate this Pa4X.SET in your computer , rename it manually as Pa4X.KST , insert USB drive
in Pa5X slot , open Pa5X.KST/ click on SOUND folder and load it , then click on PAD folder and load it (if you have custom resources).
Loading will never exceed 10 minutes of whatever Pa4X size , compressed or not !

This is the way that in 99% of times all valid custom samples that are used in Sound Banks and PAD will be loaded successfully.

For the rest resources , delete from Pa4X.SET manually SOUND, MULTISAMPLES, PCM & PAD folder and then import it to Pa5X
and finally open created by Pa5X , Pa4X.KST and load all required elements like STYLE/KEYBOARDSET.

This is the tricky way to recreate your working Pa4X Set in Pa5X and then save it under new name ...

Hope this helps

Antony.. This is Taki again after a while break.. busy with life and some recording.. and some podcast stuff... but got really pissed with Korg and their issues with this import stuff, thus stopped working on this keyboard in programming in any way - I actually almost sold it.... but still have it for now.

After spending a full week or so with trying to import samples and custom rhythms from my Pa4X to the PA5X that I just bought (spent at least 20 hours that week)... I gave up - around 3/2023.... The truth is, that I bought the PA5X as a backup to my PA4X, but really to play Americana music style in one man band situations, and not really use it for Greek music - which is why I was trying to import some samples and rhythms from the PA4X which has much of my Greek music sounds.

I just saw and updated from firmware version of 1.0 to 1.1. I just did this... and I see that there were issues corrected for the importing from PA4X. I will review the pdf explained updates (the theory of the PA5X architecture) and then try one task by one task to see how things work... First task: Only try to import sample sounds and see how they get imported into the PA5X - I see that there is also a text file generated with this firmware upgrade that has written status so i can understand if everything got imported correctly or not into the PA5X. Just this option is of great help.. Because before I just speculated with so many different variables that I could have done wrong, thus stopping my debug of why things were not working before and almost selling the unit. 2) Then i will try to import my styles and see how they get transferred to the PA5X.

I will try to work on this the next week and I will report back here to the group to validate if the import issues I had from PA4X to PA5X have been fixed with this updated firmware version.

I really appreciate all of your input and I will try to add to the input as I spend my valuable time too for us Korg Users.. I am still disappointed with how the PA5X was pushed out in so many ways.... but let's see if the upgrade version fixes at least the import issues I had issues with. I will let you know.

Thanks,

Taki
