PA4X OS

Post by Chuck »

Please excuse my absolute ignorance when it come to this kind of stuff. My only excuse is "old age" = 82. On my PA4X I have an OS of 3.0.1. from 2019.
I happened on some reading today where there is an OS of 3.1.0. So after all of the years of using my 4 with a 3.0.1 OS, is it worth my time and hopefully, accuracy to download this 3.1.0 OS? Just asking. Thanks

I'll download it. Should I expect in wild surprises or huge changes? Thanks to all.

Ran in to some issues right away. The below message was in "Media/Utility".

"Before installing this update, be sure your Pa4X already includes OS v2.0.0 (you can check it in the Media > Utility page). If it still includes a previous version (v1.x.x), please download and install v2.0.0 before installing this update."

My PA4 showed version 3.0.1. So I guess I better try to find version 2.0.0 and install it, then try again to install the 3.1. version. Right?

Dear Chuck,

I'm glad to inform you that there is no need to search for and install version 2.0.0 of the operating system for your PA4X. The current version of your instrument, 3.0.1, already includes all the resources and functionalities of version 2.0.0. Therefore, you can proceed directly with installing the update to version 3.1.0 without any issues.

I hope this information is helpful to you, and I wish you a pleasant musical experience with your PA4X.

Best regards,
Claudio

Yes Chuck the latest OS is sound and stable as the others here have said. If anyone uses a condenser microphone it restored phantom power plus other good stuff. Just be sure to make a backup first which should be regular standard practice anyway.

Pa4X updates together with its excellent editing features have made it the fabulous keyboard that it is today. Korg did well to leave us with this treasured bit of kit. We are all waiting now for the same to happen to Pa5X so that we can stick one into our homes or go on stage. How great that would be.

Good luck

I think this is the final question. Here is what I ran onto in the instructions.

- Depending on the production lot of your keyboard, the Pa4X accepts the update package with one of these two extensions: “PKG” or “UPD”.
To know which type of package your Pa4X requires turn it on while pressing and holding INTRO 1. After the calibration procedure the display will ask you to select either “a valid PKG file” or “a valid UPD file”. To avoid any damage to your Pa4X, download and install only the required file and be sure to follow the instructions provided.

I assume after reading this, that some where during "calibration" I should know which extension to select = PKG or UPD, right?

Thanks

You are almost there now Chuck. Click on "Search" at top of Forum, put in PKG,
choose Pa4X from dropdown menu, Search. It`s about your Pa4X Serial No, read all about it. Then it is very simple.

The Search feature on this forum can be a great help but be sure to do a regular backup.

Good luck
