I'm thinking of buying Korg TR synth, 61 or 76, but I have to clear a few things concerning the use of it.
1. Korg TR has only one insert effect, meaning to say, in Combi or Sequencer mode you can use only one Program sound with full effects. Is it possible to cure the situation by sampling the TR own sounds (with optional EXB-SMPL expansion) and use them thus as samples in sequencer mode?
2. Is that sampling process tedious or taking too much time?
3. In converting the AKP samples (Akai format) to native Korg format, is the size of the sample changed, and if so, is it bigger or smaller?
Thanks to anyone who would be kind to answer the questions.

The end is near
This is a very old and limited synth. It's a fantastic buy if you get one for $300 or $400, and you wanted it mostly for its key action which is great. The insert and master effects are very limited and sound dated. This thing is a quarter of a century old, and is based on circuitry and code from the 1990 era.
The sounds and the synthesis editing on this thing are of the very dark ages of deepest menu diving.
The sampling process is tedious, and leads to very low quality results. My TR88 is fully expanded and has a total of 16 MEGABYTES of RAM to hold samples. You can't play the samples directly from the SD cards.
For example, did you know that when you boot the TR88 it has NO samples loaded; You have to click about 20 button sequence to find and load a sample file from the SD or compact flash card into a slot in RAM.
As far as I know, there is NO WAY to have your RAM slots AUTOMATICALLY LOADED when the synth powers on. And with 16 megabytes of RAM, a multisampled piano, ONE instrument could use up to 8 megabytes of that RAM, if you wanted it in high quality, and wanted velocity layers and per key individual samples, and that even if you used 8 megabytes of RAM for a piano, the resulting piano will sound like garbage compared to the default Piano in mainstage? Loading 8 megs of samples into the TR when the keyboard boots takes 3-5 minutes.
For a synth sample, unless you multissample at least one sample per every octave, the results will also sound like utter garbage. Sampling using the TR itself, from another hardware synth, to get the best results, is hours of work.
No battery backup on the Sample RAM.
No automatic loading of sample RAM.
Confusing and difficult setup.
This thing is hell on earth to use as a sampler. Don't bother. These days you should be getting a mac mini, and a midi controller and using Mainstage to create your sample packs and to play your sample based keys patches.
Mainstage has AUTO SAMPLE, it will save you years of work.
