Volume lose on PA4

Post by Chuck »

I am using the PA4 with my Bose L1 Model II PA system. I've connected the Bose B2 Subwoofers (1 on each side). Lately I've noticed sound reduction while performing. At first I thought it was the Bose subs, but then after listening more I noticed all the sound was reducing.
Has anyone had the sound reducing with their 4. Is there a battery or something that needs replaced periodically on the 4 to prevent that from happening? Your thoughts appreciated.

Chuck,

Are you going through a Bose ToneMatch to the Bose L1 M2, or direct to analog input?

I had an issue with my ToneMatch, cycling with volume dropping out completely then coming back. Went on for about 5 minutes, and I was thinking I was going to have to buy a new ToneMatch.

Then I read theUser Manual, followed advice, rebooted it and it was fine.

If you have had the problem more than once though, then there seems to be 3 possibilities:

1) ToneMatch is faulty
2) Bose base unit is faulty (or the digital lead between the ToneMatch and base unit)
3) Pa4X problem which is where your discussion started.

Suggestions to try and narrow down problem -

- bypass theToneMatch and connect Pa4X directly to analog input on base unit (ideally, a TRS cable from Pa4X left output). If that works Ok, ToneMatch or digital cable is issue. You can use a standard Ethernet cable instead of the Bose cable to test if that is a problem - I doubt it though, being digital, you would think it either works or not at all

- if it doesn’t resolve problem, then it leaves the base unit or Pa4X as suspects. Test with an alternative PA, if that works OK, suspect is the Bose base unit. If not resolved, suspect is the Pa4X.

PS: if sound is not crackling, your audio lead is probably ok, but I would swap it out anyway to be sure

Good luck.

Thanks. I started with replacing the power cable from the TM to the Base power amp. It seems to be working. But I ran it for only 10 minutes. I'm going down to my studio in a few minutes and run the system for about an hour and see what happens. I also called Bose (Not good), Bose has been sold and the experts aren't there anymore. Some lady with an accent told me to send them the TM1 and if they couldn't fix it they would sell me the newer model for $350. Usually sells for $700. Now I'm pondering. More later.
