Since installing that new Korg driver, I lost access to my Roland Integra-7. It's still in Windows Device Manager, but Cakewalk is missing that device now. It was there prior to the Korg install.

I may have to load my last system image backup to get it working again, which would put me back to the older Korg driver (which worked fine for Kronos).

Some progress and some going backwards..

I discovered through a lot of trial and error, that there is a "generic USB device" showing up in Cakewalk. Unlike my UM-550 running in generic mode, there is no manufacturer name to alert me that it's the Korg Pa5X and not something else, which is why I missed it the first seven times I tried to find it in Cakewalk.

However that came at the loss of my Roland Integra-7. It's no longer available in Cakewalk Sonar. It's just.. GONE.

Though I may be a step closer to using the Pa5X with my DAW, there still is no way to access the banks and patches, because I have no Instrument Definition File for Pa5X. So all I can access is a default piano sound at the moment.

I was able to put Integra-7 into Generic USB mode and it appeared by name in Cakewalk. The only problem is that my Yamaha Motif XS is now missing from the devices!

Am making progress. Found the generic USB MIDI device actually IS the Pa5X (maybe they can improve the naming in the next firmware update) and so I was able to select it and rename it in Cakewalk's device list so I would know it IS in fact the Pa5X when I'm selecting it in a track.

Then, thanks to a generous user here on the forum, I got a instrument definition file, and now I can finally use the Pa5X in Cakewalk.

The thing I'm working on now is MIDI to styles conversion, using a Yamaha utility that QuiRobinez did a video tutorial on. I can make the STY file, but after copying it to the Pa5X, it's not visible when load style and go to the user/SD drive and styles\ folder containing the style. So possibly the utility might not be fully compatible with Korg gear. Not sure.

Overall, I'm gradually getting used to finding my way around. Editing FX is MUCH easier than on the KRONOS. The menu structure is somewhat deep and complex and the thing that tripped me up in the beginning was that the Menu button takes you different places depending on what button you press before pressing menu. Lots of things are tucked away in not so obvious places, but once I learned how to get to them, I find it quite easy to work with.

I just completed Korg product support's procedure for uninstalling, deleting midi 0-9 in registry and reinstalling the latest Korg driver and.... nothing changed. I still have a Generic USB MIDI and no digital audio device showing in Windows.

I like having digital audio (I use it with my KRONOS) because it is unaffected by the Master Volume setting. If I use the analog output, not only am I subject to noise, distortion and the foibles of analog, but also if I change the master volume, what gets streamed or recorded off the mixing board will see the volume change.

again,

none of the korg arranger keyboards supports audio over usb. So that is not available.

If you got noise or distortion in your analog signals then just buy low noise cables and use a hum eliminator to clean up your signals in your studio. I use EBTECH for this.

I was not aware that the feature didn't exist on the latest Korg keyboards. It's akin to buying a brand new car and finding out there's no radio in it.

Then may I ask what the device called "Pa5X_SOUND" in the Device Manager is?

It seems to be a step backwards, technologically, to remove a feature that ensures best quality. And due to the fact that the in built recorder only records in lossy MP3, the need to record externally to a digital workstation is even more important.

I don't have any specific hum problems, but the quality of a digital feed is always superior. And also free from volume changes when I change the master volume level as I change up performances and need to control the levels in the room so as not too soft or too loud.
