Importing SF2 Creates One Program Per Note?

Post by lmatonement »

I have a SF2 file: https://brightlight.today/fileserver/do ... 9f7d96760d. Here is part of the contents in Polyphone:

I think I'm getting close, but something is still going wrong.

What I'm doing
  1. I put the file on a USB drive
  2. Plugged the USB drive into Nautilus
  3. Mode > Media
  4. Press "Load" at the lower left
  5. Selected my SF2 file
  6. Pressed "Load" in the lower right
  7. Chose starting combination C006 (the first available for me)
  8. Chose starting program S002 (the first available for me)
  9. Pressed "OK"
What is happening

After pressing "OK", the progress bar takes a few seconds to go to 100% then I get a prompt saying, "Exceeded 16 programs - some data not loaded". I'm not sure what this means.

Nautilus is creating a new Program from the SF2 "Rohrflojt 8" preset (Great!), but it is also creating a new Program for each sample in the other presets. For instance, S003 program is "* Principal 4 0" and it only plays the low C and C# (MIDI 36 and 37 I think which are the bottom two keys of an organ). S004 is "* Principal 4 1" and it plays D and D#, and there are a lot more new programs with just two notes each.

Also, Nautilus is creating several combinations; I think one per SF2 preset, but of course the programs behind the combinations only have two notes in them, so each combination only play C and C#.

What I would like

I want several of the presets in the SF2 to be imported as Programs in naulitus "Blockfloijt 2", "Cymbel III", "Gedakt 4", and some more, but not any that say "Test".

What do I need to do to put only the SF2 presets I want into Nautilus Programs, and no combinations? Am I expecting too much automation?

To make things
a good deal simpler, here's a file with a few samples, one instrument, and one preset: https://brightlight.today/fileserver/do ... fadff204a9 It looks like this in polyphone:

When I import this into Nautilus, it still gives the error, "Exceeded 16 programs - some data not loaded", and Nautilus creates one program for every two notes. I'm not sure what could be wrong with the SF2 file, nor what kind of workaround I should apply to get it working.

Thank you for your valuable input. The file looked fine to me, but I'm obviously not trained in the arts of SF2, much less Nautilus's handling of SF2. I'll look forward to getting more familiar with that down the road.

I will proceed to create my own Programs and Combinations from the samples in the SF2 which, with the OG guide, shouldn't be too difficult.

It looks like KK deleted his valuable input. He points out that the SF2 file was apparently built for a standalone organ software (jorgan) and data in the SF2 are incorrect so that the programs and combinations created by importing it into Nautilus are incorrect.
