I can't actually get my (new to me) 700 to play midi files, when receiving signal from a laptop. Specifically, I'm using CubaseLE and a g4 Mac laptop 10.4.11.
Cubase sees the 700 and I choose it. It also sees the 700 as the input device.
I've tried sequencer mode, song play mode, style mode - but no sound.
I have the same problem in Qmidi - it sees the 700 but doesn't actually make a sound.
If Cubase 'sees' the 700, I must have a suitable midi driver, so I don't think downloading 'the latest' would help.
I have tried linking my Maudio to Cubase and it successfully records midi so the connection is good.
The problem seems to be finding a secret selection somewhere in the MENU or the GLOBAL in the 700. (and I've tried many of those)

with iPhone
I have found I can hook up an iPhone using SWEET MIDI and when I play a midi file, the bass part (CH1) plays (and only the bass part). (and as a piano)
So......once again the 700 sees the device......

700 making music
I am pleased to announce that I've I've got it working. I re-scanned midi devices in the audio-midi setup. (in my beautiful Mac). alas a 700 didn't 'show up' but.....
I went to the 700 Global midi presets and starting choosing until I came to
'03 Player'. and sure enough I finally heard a file playing correctly.

Oldest trick in the book
The truth of the matter is, I fell for the oldest trick in the midi book. I had the keyboard stuck into a USB extension box. When I put the keyboard directly into the USB on the laptop, everything worked as it should.Duh…..
