Backing Up your Pa5X

Post by Biggles »

Do not forget to Backup your Pa5X BEFORE you update the OS.

This process can also be called “Save All”

It happens every time there is an OS update released, “where is my user data, after I upgraded the OS it has gone”, so please do not be caught out.

I have written a straightforward process which the manual only briefly covers.

With a USB memory stick formatted in the 5X in one of the slots follow this process:-

Press FILE button

Select INTERNAL

Select ALL if it is not highlighted

From the Drop Down Menu, at top right of the screen, select SAVE

A “Save All” pop up then displays, and in the Destination line touch the three dots.

Navigate to the USB memory stick, in my case “Korg USB > Backups” and from the drop down menu in the top right of the screen select CREATE NEW KST

From the pop up tap the T and enter a new name, I use date format i.e 20240707SaveAll.kst

Select SAVE.

You should then see the write process occurring.

Press EXIT button

Press FILE button

Touch DRIVES on the display screen and then UP

Touch USB Memory stick and navigate to the location you selected for the KST file to be stored, in my case KORG USB > BACKUPS.

The KST file should be there.

Job done.

A simple process that will save hours of frustration should you update the OS without performing this “Save All” process.

Tips
Periodically create a SAVE ALL.KST backup file i.e. after adding user data or Songbook entries etc.
Do make a written note in your Pa5X Log Book after making changes, you can then easily ID the KST file against the changes.

Great instructions.. but some more advice... As you get into altering/customizing styles and sounds.. always make incremental saves on your USB drive... do it every month, if you are customizing things... Also, make sure you backup your USB drive to a computer too... Or another USB drive... Take it from past experience. where I did not back up things in 2 different places - for example USB drives get lost, misplaced, mixed up etc... So take the extra few minutes to do this backup, you will not regret it! Takis

Hi,
What happens once you have loaded the new O/S ?
Your save all has now created a .kst file and you simply load that to replace all your saved files ?

Any new OS will reset the PA5X to factory default (only factory samples, resources, settings, etc.).
Before you import the entire backup KST, DELETE THE SETTINGS folder from the KST. The SETTINGS in OS 1.2.1 are different to OS 1.3.0. Importing old settings may result in malfunctioning of the new OS.
Otherwise you can import individual folders, sounds and styles.

thanks for this advice - I have a simple question:
When using "save all" (after creating some SB-entries and a saved custom Setlist) I 've inspected the saved file at the destinated location: I can identify the SB-entries but can't find any Setlist(s) - is that correct?

Best regards
Tim
