On one hand it's exciting that Korg are releasing a new synth, on the other it looks like all the other mini synths they've been releasing over the past 10 years and the wood end caps are making my eyes bleed. to me it just looks uninspiring to the point that I don't even care it can do and how it sounds.

And that's totally okay, I am not mad at Korg, I just said that this is not for me. I loved the Nautilus and I got one, I've previously had the microKorg and the Z1 which I also loved but ended up selling.

I would still like to get an original kingKorg if I find a nice one at a good price, not a big fan of the NEO, but I love that they putting out a variety of products for all kinds of musicians.

A few things that I'm pleased to see implemented on the Multi/Poly are being able to run the filters in series or parallel, and the rotary speaker effect. Those are the two things I wish the Modwave could do. I had figured that the rotary effect was too processor intensive and that's why it doesn't appear on the Modwave, but it's nice to see they've worked that out for M/P.

Also nice to see the SEM filter -- I've been simulating that by using the Multi Filter crossfade on the Modwave, which is okay but a proper SEM filter is better. There are also more varieties of portamento effects. And the Drive parameter is very welcome, as well as the new Vintage Distortion effect which sounds very sweet indeed. The Drift/Voice Variation is much more fleshed out and intriguing.

I believe I saw that the arpeggiator triggers all four layers together and can't be separated per layer. I guess that's because of the round-robin layer rotate option??? (It does sound very cool when rotating the layers.) Even though there is motion sequencing per layer, it would be nice to have the arp being able to trigger individual layers only. But this is a minor thing. I suspect the arp functions exactly like the Modwave's does, and if so, one thing that would be incredibly useful is being able to modulate the octaves settings. It's weird that you can't, since you can modulate the resolution, the swing and the gate. Maybe it's just too wonky to modulate the octaves, but it would be nice to have it as at least a channel source modulation (knobs, wheel, Kaoss pad) if possible.

Anyway, the Multi/Poly seems like a great synth at first glance. Good job Dan and US R&D team.

Ok, I take back some of what I said! I watched some videos and I like what it can actually do and I think the price is more than fair at $899. I'm actually surprised it's under $1k to be honest.

It's already up for pre-order on Sweetwater for those interested (I'm not affiliated with them, just sharing the news).

i would have paid 1k+ price tag for a decent keybed (ok, it's different/better then the ones used in opsix, modwave and wavestate) with at least 4 octave and aftertouch. also in this case it will be inline with product like virus ti2, nord lead a1 and so on.

also i think that being multi/poly called the "VA engingbased on the korg's latest model" will definitely make King Neo a big fail

Well, I like it and I hate it all at the same time. Sound wise it's great but that for me is where it ends. I really really hate these toy sized keyboards. Please Korg, just stop it. Give me a minimum of 61 keys. Then, I hate having to reach for the control wheels. I'm not actually a fan of the wheels anyway but if you are going to have them, please put them at the left end of the keyboard. It's more comfortable and makes them easier to use. A joy stick like on your King Korg would be much better but I do like the wheels on my Wavestation EX too. Until you make a mature grown up version of this synth, I won't be buying it.
