Something about backwards compatibility sounds a lot like forward compatibility could be possible…
An “open architecture” for future fun !?!?

I’m pleased to have the KRONOS back in production to once again fuel my workstation GAS

a While ago I was little bit depressed that I have the discontinued Kronos 2 synth and nobody wants to be my friend anymore, because I don't have the latest and the greatest HW. Now I'm back again! I'll just spray the Gold Kronos black and I'm good! Sure it was weird thing re-release something this old, but great thing is that kronos platform will continue and we'lll get great sounds in the future (not that I really have all the sounds I need).

I did a quick search through this message thread to date to see if the 60% faster bootup time is due to a firmware update or just faster chips.

Couldn't see anything with details.

So,.... will a future system OS update allow older Kronos keyboards to boot faster??

Hi,

Im guessing that as the previous Kronos mother boards are no longer available the new mother board and processor is primarily responsible for the faster boot time. Korg may have optimised the software too but its not clear. Hopefully the new motherboards will be backward compatible for earlier Kronos models.

Here's Jordan Rudess with the new Korg Kronos 3 - 88 note on 10th January 2025. Copy link to your browser if it does not open.

PS. I think Korg call it the fourth generation Kronos :D

My hope is for the OPTION of larger than 62 Gb SSDs from the factory
Option to save/load samples, seq with vocals from external drive without having to copy to internal drive
Improved sequencer equal to current software workstations

Indeed Korg website says 120 gb SSD

Hi ,

Just to clarify. The 62 GB capacity is for user expansions etc. But the SSD size is 120GB in total. Im hoping there will be a spare sata slot so users can easily expand the disk space rather than having to clone a drive to expand.

PS. I have not heard many current reports/videos from Namm yet? The current delivery window for Kronos 3 seems to be between mid march and June.

Cheers

Stephen, are you planning to revive the Karma forum or Wiki, or tutorials, since there may be a new generation of Kronos users coming up?

Or updated, more modern Karma sound packs? Anything? \:D/

Hi,

Here are a couple of photos of a Kronos 3 - 61 note taken by Kurt Ader at Namm - KAPRO. Note Keyed label saying 'made in Japan'.

Cheers

As for myself, I have only recently (3years) been working/playing with KARMA, and it is a depth of possibility to say the least. And Im still only exploring the OG KARMA ws and Triton rack both with their respective MW / Triton software.

But I have been OVERACTIVE on KLF as well as the wiki, having given myself a fun project of “filling” in the gaps for newbie’s like myself who are into “vintage” tech. AND very much so, looktosee, sometimes with impatience, that which comes next… even willing to volunteer in any way… 25years counts as near vintage in my book

This forum is a great example of an online/offline community which has built a massive resource which KORG recognizes and “supports”, in its own way. The past activity on KLF is obvious and as with this forum a true treasure trove of info and experiences with KARMA. Seeing mostly my “signature” plastered over KLF, is a bit strange but, no reason not to post interesting ideas or explorations…

There was great disappointment when MERCH was taken offline, I was/am hoping to buy more some day. And of course climb the family tree of KARMA enabled synths as well! Hopefully Karma-lab will find a new resource for that and a “new” website/forum/wiki or a Karma-lab University of higher learning, would all be great but WE still need to participate…

Perhaps… if past is prologue, then just maybe Stephen and Sharp collaborate as with the Sayomi poster,to create something special. And lest we forget Sharp’s rendition of a KRONOS rack…

Have embarked on a very “unofficial” promotional campaign of Karma-lab… all for fun

I’m Back!
Haven’t logged on to the forum here in what seems like years.
Been playing my Kronos more often in 2024, but mostly I am away from home and Kronos, out of state and even out of the country.
So….upgrading to Kronos 3 is not going to work any better for me.

But what will work: is I stay tuned on the forum here for when the software updated from Kronos 3 is released for Kronos 2.
I heard it will be made for Kronos 2 users to have some of the new features passed down from Above ☝️ at the throne of Kronos 3.
Will be happy to have that for my Kronos 2. =D>

Thanks Korg Forum for all the information here.

#-o

There's a thread on here several phone books thick of features people liked to see added or fixed on the Kronos and Korg pretty much ignores all of it if they even bothered. Who was their base when researching what people wanted to see updated on the Kronos cause it sure wasn't us. Seems like they just updated things that don't really do much to change the overall dynamics of the keyboard. The most inexpensive least time consuming things that wouldn't require actual work and engineering. It's barely worth mentioning or discussing. The Kronos 3 is bringing nothing new to the table and asking $3,000 for a 15 yo outdated keyboard in 2025 that doesn't even have DAW integration or Bluetooth/Wifi is rather crazy.

I don't see anything about this keyboard that's going to pull kids away from the plug in's they're using and bringing guys out like Jordan Rudess isn't going to help market this keyboard to a younger audience. So they must be trying to sell this to people that already own a Kronos but yet there's nothing new enough about it to make you blow $3K to get a different experience than your old Kronos offers.

New money with the same old problems. All I can assume is that Korg still had a warehouse full of old Kronos parts and this was the best way they could think to get rid of it because they definitely intended to discontinue this keyboard for good. Seems like a huge disappointment/missed opportunity to revive the Kronos line up with something new and fresh while still being reminiscent.

Instead of Kronos 3 they should have just called this Kronos-Reissue because that's all it really is.

Like I've said a million times though if Korg actually wants to make a Workstation they need to study what Akai has done with the MPC as a hardware/standalone production format that's able to pull people away from directly using VST's to and DAW's Akai has been extremely innovative and successful at that. They're in the position that Korg should be trying to aim for with a Workstation Keyboard. Something that has everything you need included even things other manufacturers offer.
I make all the mistakes for you so that you can learn what not to do. ;)
