RT knob 1 auto Reset when done with Combi?

Post by jetrocker »

I have two simple programs in my combi, piano and strings. Strings are assigned to RT1 in user mode as mixer volume. Is there a way to "reset" RT1 to zero after I leave the combi? The reason is sometimes I forget to dial the knob back to zero and when I come back to the combi and bring up the volume of the strings, they are at the level that the knob was left in. Makes for a jarring sound intro while playing. I need the smooth transition from zero regardless of where I left the knob last. Thx, Mark

The knobs on most Korg workstations, like RT1, don’t reset automatically when you leave a Combi. They keep their last physical position, so when you come back, the synth reads that position and jumps the volume to match. That’s why you’re getting that sudden jarring sound from the strings.

One workaround is to assign your string volume to something other than RT1, like a foot pedal or vector joystick, which can start at zero by default. That way, you don’t risk leaving the knob turned up

Thank you for the workaround. Do you know if the ribbon could do the same thing, defaulting to zero. Guess I'd have to use a lock as well on it...

Yeah, the ribbon could technically be used the same way as a controller, but it won’t reset to zero on its own either, it’ll stay where you last left it. So yeah, you’d probably need to either lock it manually before switching combis or set up a MIDI filter or a reset command in the combi itself if your board supports that
