Hi, I'm a keyboard player without a lot of knowledge of drawbar organs. For many years, I had a problem of not being able to recreate a particular sound I like - this velvety, shimmery, silky sound with a soft attack that's often used in blues and reggae. Somehow it's never in the presets, and I can't make any model/synth that I tried to make this purring sound. Rock organ - no problem, but this - nope. I must be doing something wrong.
I'm talking about a soft, higher-pitched sound that goes well in the verses without drowning out other instruments, or is used in softer blues solos. Very soft attack and a lot of harmonics without much of the main tone, but still has some grit inside. I'm talking about Eric Clapton's "I Shot the Sheriff" - the left-channel high organ sound there, or Bob Marley's "Real Situation" (the very beginning). There are better examples with a more silky sound, but I can't think of one right now. Right now, I'm trying to emulate it on KORG Nautilus. It has 2 sets of 9 drawbars for split keyboard, decent Leslie emulation and and a good effects engine. But just playing with drawbars doesn't get me there. It always sounds too percussion-y and too well-defined, with too much of the main tone. Either too cheesy, or too hard. Any ideas? All advice welcome!

Try setting the drawbars to something like 800800024.
