Anyone have a Kronos 3 connected to a Network/FTP?
I have a TrendNet TU2-ETG that I’ve had for a long time; it works flawlessly with my original Kronos to let me FTP into the hard drive.
With a Kronos 3, the same interface apparently does not work, although all the settings are the same. I keep getting a “connection refused” or “connection could not be established. Check username password etc.". Even though the green lights are on, and it finds the correct DHCP settings.
I know this interface is not part of the list of compatible interfaces that appears in the Kronos 2 manuals.
The Kronos 3 manuals no longer have a list and refer you to Korg’s website, where there is NO list.
I could try getting a TrendNE TU2-ET100 or the Apple USB-Ethernet adapter, I suppose…

Re: Anyone have a Kronos 3 connected to a Network/FTP?
Hey, Stephen.
When you say original Kronos, are you being literal, i.e. the first Kronos before X and 2?
I have a K2, and getting the network adapter working took a couple of tries. It's been years so I don't remember the first one I tried (I think it was a TrendNet of some type because I've had good luck with their gear), but I'm pretty sure it was on the list but didn't work. I think I also tried a generic one that was supposed to be compatible with something on the list, but no joy. Eventually I bought a genuine Apple MC704ZM/A, and that worked without any trouble. My network is all Windows 10 computers.
If you need the list I could try to find it in my docs, but maybe the Apple I mentioned will work for you. If yours is older than the K2, hopefully there's not much difference between the 2 and the 3.
Let me know if I can help further.

Hi Chris,
Yep... the very first Kronos.
I'll try getting the Apple adapter.

Re: Anyone have a Kronos 3 connected to a Network/FTP?
Hi Stephen,
I remember when I had one of those adapters, depending on the year it was made, even for a given compatible model from the same manufacturer, one would work (older) or not (newer). At some point, I decided it would be easier to FTP connect directly, so I did that simple mod in my K2 using a short LAN cable with the male side in the MOBO's RJ-45 port and the female side hidden under the Korg after cutting a little square in the corner of the bottom wooden panel. Of course, since your K3 is still under warranty, you probably don't want to open it, not to mention there might not be a RJ-45 port on the "unknown" new MOBO.

If I hadn't finally gotten the Apple one to work I probably would have done the same. The connector compatibility seems to be flaky in the extreme.

Re: Anyone have a Kronos 3 connected to a Network/FTP?
I don't know much at all about network stuff, but I supposed back then that USB-Ethernet protocols changed with time, making more recent adapters incompatible with the Kronos' obsolete MOBO.

Re: Anyone have a Kronos 3 connected to a Network/FTP?
I can unfortunately confirm that the Kronos3 only supports outdated USB network adapters, which are no longer available for purchase
I tested a few newer USB network adapters (ASUS, Trendnet, Ugreen) that I had lying around, but for me only the Apple MC704ZM/A network adapter worked.
I assume the list of supported network adapters for Kronos3 remains the same as it was for Kronos 1+X+2:
• Apple USB Ethernet Adapter (MC704ZM/A)
• Cisco Linksys USB-300M
• TRENDnet TU2-ET100
• BUFFALO LUA3-U2-AGT
• BUFFALO LUA3-U2-ATX
• BUFFALO LUA-U2-KTX
• IODATA ETX3-US2
• Logitec LAN-TX/U2B
• Logitec LAN-TX/U2H3
• Planex UE-100TX-G3

Re: Anyone have a Kronos 3 connected to a Network/FTP?
To update my original post, I got the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter (MC704ZM/A) and it didn't work with Kronos 3. I gave up.
Re: Anyone have a Kronos 3 connected to a Network/FTP?
I think when a peripheral device such as a USB to Ethernet adapter is connected to a computer, the device is supposed to download drivers to the computer in order to use the device.
If this is true, would the issue be that the adapters are not installing the drivers to the K3?

Re: Anyone have a Kronos 3 connected to a Network/FTP?
The Kronos OS comes only with a predefined set of USB to Ethernet drivers, hence the restricted list of compatible devices. One would have hoped that these drivers might at least also be present in the Kronos 3 OS.
The Kronos would not be able to download drivers, unless it had an internet connection, and the OS was configured to obtain updates from the web, which I believe is not the case. In any case, if it had an internet connection, it wouldn't need drivers. Alternatively, it could be possible for driver files to be supplied to the Kronos on a memory stick, if the OS had included such a feature.
One thing that might be of interest is that I just tried plugging a USB to Ethernet adapter into a booted up Kronos X and it didn't appear to recognise the USB to Ethernet adapter via plug and play, either with or without a "live" Ethernet cable connected. This was repeatable behaviour, with quite a few attempts made.
Connecting the same adapter to the Kronos BEFORE booting it up, resulted in the adapter being recognised and an IP address acquired via DHCP. If the USB to Ethernet adapter was disconnected and reconnected, whilst the Kronos was powered on, the Kronos just kept saying "connecting" and wouldn't acquire an IP address, using either USB port. However, plugging the adapter back in after several minutes of disconnection, resulted in an IP address being obtained by the Kronos. <shrug emoji>
What's interesting is that, having performed the above actions, plugging the adapter in after a reboot has subsequently resulted in the adapter being recognised.
The USB to Ethernet adapter in question was a cheapie USB 2.0 Ethernet Adapter, bought off Amazon many years ago. It enumerates on a PC as a Device Name: AX88x72A; product name: AX88772, from ASIX Electronics Corp. Vendor ID 0b95, firmware revision 0.01.
The AX88772 chip seems to be very widely used in a number of different USB to Ethernet adapters, so there may be some cause for optimism.
