KORG Modwave receiving on all MIDI channels - why?

Post by romandesign »

I connected my new Modwave (mk1) directly to Korg Nautilus via 5-pin DIN MIDI cable (Out to Nautilus to In on Modwave). I have Modwave Global MIDI Channel set to 7. However, no matter what global channel I set on Nautilus, Modwave responds as if I'm playing on 7. No matter what I do - it always plays. What could be the problem? Other synths are not reacting the same way, and this happens even if Modwave is the only thing connected to Nautilus. I'm trying to set up a live stage setup when Nautilus would send program changes and possibly sequenced tracks to Modwave, but I'm stuck. There doesn't seem a lot of MIDI related settings other than Global channel and Clock...

It looks like Nautilus, when in Combi or Sequencer mode (the one I'm using on stage to play more than one sound at a time, and send program change messages to external synths) is sending Note on/off messages on all enabled channels, and not just on the global channel. Muting the other tracks, including the track using ch7 solves the issue. So it's not the Modwave, it just plays what it gets on ch7, it's the Nautilus sending everything all at once, which kind of makes sense because of the nature of Combi mode.
