thats just my idea of how it should work ..in theory at least.

i'm thinking of ordering one to see how it goes.

some time back i got one of those compact flash adapters from scsifor samples but it kept crashing the trinity so i ended up sending it back.

i mainly use the trinity in my home studio now but would be nice to dispose of floppies and the scsi zip and replace it with a reliable usb

The only concern so far is formatting the USB device. I inserted a 1GB USB stick. The keyboard recognized it no problem but it was unformatted.

i formatted the usb stick from the keyboard and i can now read, write, delete to/from it. The problem is the capacity remains at 1.44 MB.

I transferred the stick to my laptop, reformatted the stick to FAT and got the 1GB back but now the Trinity won't recognize it either.

I wonder how the author was able to accomplish this.

Do you have a manual and photo of the 'thing'? In theory you should have a utility to format it, but worst case you should be able to change the 'slot' and format, even though formatting 100x is not great fun, I imagine...

I didn't realize sooner. it did come with a CD, probably with an utility to partion USB devices. I will take pics tonight and post a link. If it works, this would be a sweet setup.

I don't want to sell it now but I have to.

Dear friends,

The only thing you get with this mod, is that you actually get rid of the floppies.

The drive capacity REMAINS 1.44MB and this cannot be changed...
So you will never be able to have an 1GB drive for your Trinity and this is truly very sad...

I was just about to install it at my Trinity Plus for the PBS-TRI option, but when I found out that fact, I forgot it... :(

is it fast ?, even at 1.44 a partition, if you can have many partitions it would be good for storing patches. songs etc especially if load times are improved.

I do not know about the speed, but you have to keep in mind that the data transfer rate is always relative to the specific platform the main board was designed for...

Which means that even if the usb protocol allows for faster rates, the Trinity is designed for floppy rates, so this is the deal.

I forgot to mention that the other benefit of this mod is that this new usb drive can accomodate several "volumes" with the size of a single floppy and you can switch between the different "floppies" with the press of the button on the front beige of the new drive.

True. This is great to get rid of the floppy disks only. There was no difference in speed.

The utility that came with the emulator allows you to have multiple partitions ona single usb device. A 1GB usb stick gave me 100 floppy disk images. 8MB per floppy is reserved for the image. The speed is the same as you all mentioned.

The one thing I was not able accomplish, however, was switch between images. The reason is two models of the drive exit. One with the LCD display and one without.

Of course I didn;t know this when I bought the device. But this is a spare keyboard so I'm not really going to buy the lcd drive.

Here are links to the drives:

This is the one I bought: http://www.virtualvillage.com/3-5-144mb ... 1-077.html

This is the one I should have bought:

Notice the buttons to switch between images.

Another challenge was finding an utility that would format in FAT12. Windows wants to format in FAT16. Trinity uses FAT12, which is the default for floppy disks. So what I had to do was format the usb stick using the Trinity and only then was I able to transfer files between the PC and the usb stick.

This is an interesting proposition, but only feasible if you work with floppies that can be read on a PC so you can transfer the content to the various partitions of the USB stick. Otherwise, once you've swapped the floppy drive, how do you read the floppy disks content ? I would love to see an option like this where you could put an image on the partition as opposed to data. That way, you could create images with utilities like OmniFlop or the Giebler programs and use such a device with older machines that have non standard floppy drive formats.

Post by xavierfrancis »

How does one copy the os on to this usb stick as the updating software asks for a floppy drive on the computer?

This is regarding the floppydrive emulator for my Korg PA60.

Any help would be appreciated as this keyboard was bought for Church Worship purposes.

Thank you
