Take me for example.... I'd buy a Kronos just for the "Steinway D" or the "Yamaha C" (or the forthcoming Bosendorfer (Imperial?)). Its a fraction of the price for the same sound! The Steinway D actually sounds better than my acoustic Baldwin baby grand!

Using those company's names would cost a loss of sales (profit) for Steinway, Yamaha and Bosendorfer for anyone who buys a Kronos just to get those sounds (like I did). So unless Korg has written permission to use their name in their marketing and/or printed materials, they'd be in for a huge lawsuit.... with a possible injunction to halt production/sales until the lawsuit is over (could take years).

Korg could get permission, but they would have to pay those companies for that permission... be it royalties for each sale, or some predtermined amount.... that's even if those companies are willing to consider having their names used by Korg . That means the consumer would have to pay a higher price for the Kronos in order to compensate for Korg's cost to those companies for permission to use their names.

The fact that we know that its a Steinway D or a Yamaha C or a Bosendorfer (whatever model they'll use in the future release) is all we need to know. The end result is the sound they produce. That's all I care about. If I can get that same sound for the price of a Kronos rather than the 6-digit price of a Bosendorfer then I'm way ahead of the game... it doesn't matter to me if they use the name or not. In fact, I like it just the way it is... keeps the price down, provides awesome sounding pianos, and saved me a fortune by not having to buy the real acoustic instrument. Win-win for me and for Korg.

So that's the reason the keys are white.

Is there a way to sample the girl (Alicia?) in the picture?

Notice the acoustic piano.
I grew up playing a Sohmer console that looked very much like what you can see in the picture (mine was undoubtedly older with its real ivory). All things being equal, I would've much rather had a Kronos in its place.

Yes me too... I can't say the same for my Shigeru, and the picture of Alicia and her piano reinforces one thing for me.... Ain't nothing like the real thing baby.
