Hi - would love some of the UK synth bands...

Depeche mode -eg Personal Jesus (verse)
Tears for fears - Mad world
Gary Numan - cars / are friends etc,
Duran Duran - eg Hungry like wolf - arpeg.

hope you venture gets going soon, and more thn happy to pay reasonable amount for quality sounds (just dont have the time/knowledge to tackle myself at the moment).

Rick - forgot to mention..

Human League - eg sound of crowd / dont you want me etc.

Jan Hammer and George Duke leads and basses, along with some Joe Zawinul/Weather Report sounds belong to my all time synth favourites.

I still haven't explored the existing sounds in the Kronos, but if expansions for sounds of the 60's or anything orchestral were available, I'd buy them in a heartbeat.

ABBA sounds (S.O.S. (!!), all the Visitors album stuff, etc.); Jump; Davy's on the road again (the Watch version, synth/organ solo!)

And at least in Europe the Yamaha DX7 (-> thus MOD7 engine in Kronos) is also used a lot.

Ah, yes, of course. Heck, not just Europe...and you could make this case for pretty much all of the engines in the Kronos.

I did a terrible job framing my answer, but I meant to respond to the idea of emulating the common subtractive-type sounds in 80's pop/rock songs. If not familiar with the AL-1, many people might find it easier to get close to the sound they're after on the Polysix. In the right hands, however, the AL-1 allows for a broader palette and could ultimately be more convincing.

I think if you reproduce what you have already done on Motif to Kronos, would be great.

I bought both 80's packs for the Motif. If you release your libraries on the Kronos, and convince the Vintage Keys guy to do the same, a lot of us could probably part with our Motifs lol

For the most part, I prefer creating my own sounds. I am not usually concerned with sounding exactly like the recording - that's what CDs are for.

That said, there is ONE sound that I have not heard any synth do well out of the box and that is the Moody Blues' signature Mellotron strings sound. The Mellotron string samples/sounds I have heard tend to be too harsh sounding. Pinder was able to get a more ethereal feel. I realize that effects played a part in Pinder's sound, but one would think that such would be easy to re-create.

PS: The closest I HAVE heard is a patch from Kurzweil. Perhaps I could tweak that one a bit closer. I KNOW Kronos CAN do it, but I am just getting comfortable with AL-1 and MOD-7. Perhaps the answer lies in combining the two engines since I do not own a Mellotron to sample it.

I have to admit, even with a touch screen, Kronos isn't that much fun to program compared to a Prophet or Supernova. Makes me sad. I wouldn't mind if pro's makes sounds available for download for the Kronos, even though I like to program my own sounds as much as making music.

Make some Jean Michel Jarre type of sounds and other ambient electronica sounds. And make some 80s classic FM sounds. All hail FM synthesis!

I wish I had the time these days, especially with the holidays approaching, so I'm all for letting someone else do the fancy programming. I have extremely limited knowledge on the subject and would much prefer taking the time to learn actual songs as opposed to programming to get that sound just so perfect. So having said that, i've been playing live with a very POOR synth/sweep intro to Tom Sawyer by Rush on my Jp8000. Would love to come across that on Kronos and do it right.
Also, love some of the other suggestions put forth so far.
