Kronos Third-Party Sound Request List

Post by Mofit »

Hello, all. My name is Rick, and I am the programmer for playkeyz.com. Until this week, I have programmed only on Yamaha synths. I am continuing to do that, but in the wake of the Kronos (a really big wake, by the way), I now am branching out into Korgs.

I am going to re-create the 80s soundsets for the Kronos, and after that turn to a 2000s Pop/Rock Soundset featuring sounds from specific pop/rock hits from 2000-2009. I have a draft list of tunes/sounds, and would love input from the Kronos owners/users.

Please share your valuable thoughts on which songs and which sounds you would like to have programmed for the Kronos.

I also may be asking quite a few programming questions. I still have a lot to learn about this synth.

Regards,
Rick

Welcome to KF, Rick - sounds an exciting project! Am sure you will get lots of input here.

For a list of 80s/90s stuff this might be a good place to start... http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=58912
Plugged in: Fantom 8, Jupiter-X, Jupiter 80, System-8, JD-XA, V-Synth GTv2, FA-06, SE-02, JU-06A, TR-09, VT-4, Go:Livecast, Rubix44, Shure SM7b, Push2, Ableton 11 Suite, Sibelius, KRK Rokit 5,

Van Halen - Jump.

That is all. I'd buy the pack as long as it had 30 of the same "Jump" sounds on it.
(kidding).

Journey, Rush, Floyd, Van Halen, REO, Styx...pretty much most of the ones mentioned in the link cello gave.

For newer stuff, I'd put in lots of Lady Gaga sounds, Katy Perry, Muse, etc...

Hi Rick, it's well worth having a read of this thread on the OASYS forum:

http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... hp?t=58912

as pretty much all the suggestions that have been made there will apply to your request.

But to get the ball rolling here in your thread, my personal requests (some may be just outside the 80's) would be:
  • - *THAT* Peter Gabriel CP80 like piano sound (from Red Rain etc...)
    - Just about any Duran Duran sounds from the Rio album era
    - Gary Numan - Cars
    - Robert Palmer - Addicted To Love
    - The Who - Baba O'Reilly
    - Simple Minds - Real Life
    - Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star - That piano sound
    - Journey - Don't Stop Believin - The intro piano sound
    - Roachford - Cuddly Toy (was a UK hit and has a cool sliding organ sound at the 2 minute mark)
:D

Does nobody program their own synths these days?

Much of the stuff in this list is basic analogue fodder, and not difficult to achieve with the AL-1.

Don't be afraid of the K beast... take control!

Agreed.

But the AL-1 UI, while logical from a technical view, doesn't give you any good intuitive programming overview IMO. You simply lose track too often, switching between all the edit pages.
Kronos 73 - Moog Voyager RME - Moog LP TE - Behringer Model D - Prophet 6 - Roland Jupiter Xm - Rhodes Stage 73 Mk I - Elektron Analog Rytm MkII - Roland TR-6s - Cubase 12 Pro + Groove Agent 5

Most musicians I know (myself included) don't want to spend time creating/developing sounds... we want to spend time creating music! Sound shaping/creating are for those that love doing that. Personally, I'd rather make music... give me new sounds and I'll figure out what to do with them

Actually it's the same for me. However, I want to have the flexibility to change everything, that means I regularly tweak sounds, which can be changing 0, 1 or maybe 50 parameters. But mostly I take a sounds which I like, not necessarily something sounding similar and use it or change it. For me (and our band), the overall picture is most important, not the authenticity of the sound itself. This means I sometimes use an electric piano where the original is an acoustic piano, adding even sounds which are not in the original or using a synth pad/lead instead of a brass sound etc.

Hey, Kronik. I think that the time it takes to program sounds like heard on a CD is much, much greater for some people than maybe for you. I know that I have spent literally days on certain songs, and in some cases I don't even use sounds because I cannot get close enough.

Also, some people just hate programming. I think it's an individualized thing.

In any case, the suggestions on this thread are great!

Not in a cover band, but some classic 80's sounds I can remember:

I'm Only Human by Human Nature
Time After Time Cindi Lauper
Thompson Twins
Take My Breath Away
