Hi Sharp,

The new forum organization is great!

I have suggestion, why not migrate to PHPBB3? I have a forum with some friends using it and the navigation is much better.

Much better - it splits things up - beforehand it was really just a huge list of forums which was easy to get lost in.

I like the new layout. It should hopefully bring some attention back to the other boards as the single list was getting a bit long, this breaks it up a bit more evenly.

Hi Sharp

Love the new sections - stunning. And - Wow! what a legacy, depth and breadth to Korg keyboards and synths!! It's so clear now.

However, if I might be so bold - though I am truly delighted for the new Analogue and VA sections - would it not be better to have the digital/workstations section nearer the top and as the second section and Analogue underneath that, given the the Kronos forum is by far the most popular and, whatever the future for workstations in light of the re-emergence of analogue, the workstation is the core product for Korg. Just a suggestion and of course you of course reserve the right to tell me to feck off :-)

The New organization is fine. However, I think the order of the sections must be rethinked.

IMHO, the best approach is to set the order of the sections based on the total posts for each one. Right now, the first sections really have little posts and therefore, the (majority of) users now have to scroll down to find their section.

Yes, I kind of mentioned this above. It's intentional and an experiment. Many users do not participate in other areas of the forum, they often visit only one place, never seeing the general off topic threads we have and other conversations.

I'm thinking that by mixing things up and pushing the main section down in the list that we may see a shift in user activity and see people spread out into other areas. I'm also thinking it will also give the Analog section a better launch.

As I said, it's an experiment. If there's no shift in traffic, I will put the main section back on top.

Sharp

Yes, I think I mention this was going to happen in my first post above.

From the point of view of the work the moderators have to do on a daily basis, it will a very welcome update.

Sharp.

Thumbs up for you Sharp. I like the reorganization and I think it will become easier for new users to find where to locate their questions or read the posts for the kind of instrument they are interested in.
@MarPabl: come on, from what I see on your avatar, you shouldn't complain about some extra exercise :)

Yes, see my post two places up and elsewhere in this thread.
This is only an experiment. It was intentional.

Many users are not going down the list at all. They are just sticking to the top items and missing out on so much other stuff. Shaking things up a little might see that change for the better.

If there's no difference in the next week or two, then I will put the Workstaitons back on top. We will see. Maybe people simply won't like it this way and voice their option enough for me to put it back.

Regards
Sharp.

The changes make sense and are good, with one exception: The categorization into "Korg Virtual Analog (Modeling)" or "Korg Digital Synths / Workstations" is questionable concerning the OASYS and Kronos, as they are also VA modeling synths (factually even three) and of course much more, like FM, Physical Modeling and HD PCM synths.

An additional category, just for the Korg multi-engine synth flagships (and their possible successors), would resolve the conflict.

;)

However they are still also Workstations - because they offer 'full' sequencing and production capabilities. Which is the definition of a workstation.

I like the new look.

It doesn't bother me having to scroll down to the sections I'm interested in, but I'm not sure your experiment really works.

I agree the analog is nice to have up there and I'm not complaining (for a change) about the rest, I just don't see it achieving what you desire.

For example, if someone isn't interested in the keyboards listed before their ones, they will just scroll down to the one they are interested in, they will still get to their preferred section without scrolling past any of the "Creativity", "Computer Music" or "General Topics" sections which are the three sections I would have thought a lot of people might be interested in regardless of whether they have a piano, arranger, workstation or whatever.

The "korg virtual analog synths general" could cause some confusion with things like some discussions of ipad ims20 apps ending up there and others ending up in the "korg apple ipad software" section.

But I do like the new look and feel, and after all, the Kronos has been at the top for ages and many Arranger users that post/read daily have had to scroll down and they haven't seemed to mind.

Great job
