Hi Dan, no I have not. I cannot preyed to understand all about the Kronos so when I was considering one of the demos I emailed Korg and asked a few questions. In a nutshell I learned that if and when I move to a larger Kronos I can't remove the authorization from my existing board and move it to a new board. So I never purchased. The reply was the reason I started saving for some software alternative. I know it isn't forever either but I I can migrate software to a new computer as I change to a new computer. I would be more tempted buy the exs if that were the case should I decide to move up to an 88 key instead of my 61, which has been a consideration of mine.

Please correct me if I am understanding this incorrectly. I feel for the money I should be able to move my purchase if I change my board. Just to reiterate if I sell my 61 and purchase should be able to be moved to the new Kronos, in my case an 88 at some point.

KRS libraries (Programs, Combis, Wave Sequences, Drum Kits, Drum Patterns etc.) do not use authorization; nothing ties them to a physical instrument. They also tend to be quite inexpensive.

EXs libraries (containing sample data) use authorization tied to the physical instrument.

Thanks Dan! I didn't understand that. Sadly it was the EXs of strings I was really interested in.

I do appreciate the clarification, and will continue to hope and even pray for EXs policy change.

...and I think that's what people are not agreeing with. There should definitely be some kind of mechanism that will allow you to unregister the EXs from your current Kronos onto your next one (if there's a need for it to be done) - or allow multiple authorizations at the same time.

When one buys a Kontakt library, one doesn't need to buy it again when switching to a different computer. That's just ludicruous.

ok, clear but I am wondering what the difference is between EXs77 Granular Dreams 1 (there must be a 2 somewhen) and EXs54 Granular Atmosphere - when both are made by Kurt Ader

Completely different libraries! Download the demos and try them out.

I have the Strings library. I can tell you for sure it's a nice addition to the factory sounds - that is only if you pay for it once though.

In my case, I already knew this library would be tied down to this particular Kronos so not complaining at all. Just needed some additional Strings, so went ahead and got it but that'll be my only EX purchase. Not that I'm planning to sell or upgrade my Kronos anytime soon, but for me this kind of restriction in general just sounds so out of date and weird bordering on greedy...

In brief, I'll just call it a bad investment and move on, should the situation ever come up. Paying twice for the same exact library is a No No.

Not trying to shoot the messenger or be rude to anybody. That's just my honest feedback.

Sometimes I think we are getting spoiled. The programming work on the KRS's and EXs is top notch.

its mostly a matter of taste or personal style which KRS or EXs is a fit for you.

For me KRS 04 and 05 , are no brainers. Both will save me several months of programming work , and will open up new avenues of creation on my Kronos.

I have numerous projects to work on, likely to keep me busy through the end of the year.

I am not exactly the target audience for all the EXs, since I play as a hobby, not for income.

But i do recognize the work and talent put into them. If an EXs supported studio/recording work, other gigs, I could see buying them.

I bought the KRS70.
Love it.
I for one appreciate that people are out there writing stuff for the KRONOS. Not all of us are top notch programmers and some of us just don't have the time.
It cost me 19.00 for 128 patches which about 120 are useable for me.

So that's what less than .15 a patch?

As I am entitled to my opinion here as well, I hope people keep writing them.

I hope I didn't start a war with this thread. I'm a Kronos nood Lol. I thought it would be some good info for some and contributing to the forum. I didn't see anyone else post anything, so I took the leap.

Sorry if I returned bad experiences to some people. It was definitely not intentional.

I really like a few of the EXs and I have bought just one of it (EX 51) immediately after I have received my Kronos.
After buying it I noticed the policy that I cannot use it on a 2nd Kronos, that I cannot sell it and that I cannot transfer it at all.
That's why I stopped buying them without thinking at least 3 times before if I really need them. In between I have bought a second Kronos and likely I will buy the EX51 again just to keep the sounds and programs the same. But that's it.
I am absolutely willing to spend another 500 or 600 Euro for software but if I have to do it twice although i am playing just one Kronos at one time, I do not agree since I am not earning money with it.
I also have a lot of libraries for my PC - and even good ones for relative little money. But I can use them also on my laptop at least with a dongle.

Imagine a Kronos succesor will come on the market very soon and I don't buy it because I have to buy the same library the 3rd or even the 4th time ....
Also I can't sell my overloaded old Kronos anymore for a fair price.
There must be - and I am sure there will be - a policy change.
And that's why I am still waiting before I am buying my next EX's

That would, indeed, be great and help to address a real problem.
