Nice to hear.
This is how Viscount does it without a touchscreen. It´s 16 points with linear interpolation between. Viscount uses a special tailored Linux system like Korg does to get their own OS/UI/sound engine running. The screen is an OLED. So in principle Korg should be able do even better with the big touchscreen. The machines are in the same price range and the enterprises are (?) the same size.

(three pictures a) selection of curve by fixed name b) a silly selfmade curve c) a linear curve ) I hope this counts a constructive criticism. I would still like to buy an updated Kronos 61. ;)

From my experince on this very same matter:
I´m afraid you´ll need to take your unit to an authorized service center, to see if they can re calibrate your keybed (not likely) or change the whole keybed or even the whole keyboard unit (more likely).

Yep, I know.
:?

But, theres nothing else you can do.

The idea was more that there would come a universal solution with more and more customizable velocity curves.

Wow Saxifraga

That would be great to have something like that on Kronos

To all the people who are still in denial:

curve 4

even my kawai k1 has better expression en larger velocity range.

to all the people who are claiming that you don't need to reach 127, that's total BS. maybe if you're playing mozart or bach on a pianopatch.

if you play electrical piano's, the korg kronos (and M3) keybed (61, 73 and 88) are all worthless. it's a shame that i have to use an extra midi keyboard.

I have had a kurxweil pc3, roland fantom g7, motif xf, motif xs and the korg m3 and kronos. The korg keboards are BY FAR the worst 9in terms of expressiveness/velocity range)

If you don't bother this issue, please don't deny there is a huge problem. To me, and to a lot of othere people this is a BIG problem.

To korg, i am very disappointed in you as a company, trying to silence this and don't take your customers serious.

korg just did a poor job on the kronos. from day one there were problems. noisy fan, bouncing keys, double triggers, the thing makes noise when you play, space between keys i need to install 1GB ram myself, it took wayyy too long before the vst was released, velocity problems etc etc etc.

i think this instrument is way overpriced and korg did a poor job on the hardware etc.

it's a shame because in my opinion it's still the best sounding workstation out there

Velocity curves / software update

Hi, I'm new to this forum and came here be searching the web because of the velocity problems of the Kronos2.

I know, lot of time passed since last post here. But problem stil unsolved!!! I own a Korg Kronos2-88 with OS version 3.04 and I have the same problems with velocity curves. To reach the top sound layers I have to use curve #6 (even then hard to reach value 127). But it is impossible to then play the lower values accurately. So I'd like to have the behaviour of curve #5 or #9 in the low velocity ranges, #6 for the upper range (without karate or big hammer) and a smooth transition in between. Any hope, Korg will finally fix this? I have offered my Kronos for sale now because I'm really annoyed about their customer care - and seeing no hope for a solution. I ask myself, are we idiots to them? (maybe V.I.P.s get special treatment and customized curves... (my conspiracy theory #xyz :-))

Kind regards, Haraldino

Honestly it's not an issue for me but I wish they'd offer a custom curve/calibration already, everybody could set it up the way they like and all the discussion would be over.

This and the aftertouch response were intial issues with me as well, but I've adapted and use an external keyboard as something of a workaround.

If Korg were to update this, my personal hopes are that they take something from the Alesis Fusion approach. They used several curves (exponential, logarithmic, exp/log, linear, etc) that each also has its own level and offset (which they called "Scale"). This achieved very finely tweakable response.

The velocity response of a physical keyboard has a yuuuge effect on the dynamic response of the programs. That is, at least for the sounds that are played live rather than programmed in beforehand.

This is something that's been bothering me recently too. Seems I constantly have to change velocity curves depending on my current style of playing. Many of the programs have a velocity layer > 100 which really helps the sound come alive and offers extra expression, yet I never seem to be able to trigger them!

This is on a K61.

It is very hard getting over 100 on mine as well, it did get sent back to Korg who tested it and said it was fine. I guess they used a hammer to test it.

I don't know Karma very well, but I'd hazard a guess there's a way to "re-map" velocity in order to create your own custom velocity and aftertouch responses...

I'm guessing you'd need the full software version to do this?

(Or perhaps in Global mode, turning local keyboard off, send out MIDI signal to be returned back into Kronos and use the external velocity/aftertouch curves in combination with your locally set curves to get some kind of hybrid curves? Think I'll experiment with this when I get home...)

Come to think of it, barring that, I probably could use my Kurzweil Expressionmate to get the desired effect, although that doesn't help anyone else...

There's a Kronos developer who lurks the boards here once in awhile. Hopefully he'll chime in with the possibility of a firmware update that includes customizable velocity/aftertouch curves...
