Another thing that puzles me.......

The "heart" of the OASYS is largely made up by computer parts: 40GB Hard Drive, CD-R/RW, 10.4 inch TFT TouchView screen, Intel P4 prosessor, ram-memory, and a main-board of some kind to mount the components on.

Will it be possible to get these parts in 5 years or so? What about 10 years? Standard computer parts cange every 3 months, and most of the parts in the OASYS are really old by today's standard. -Try to find a 40GB Hard Drive in a shop today, and you will see my point. One crack in the touch-screen, and a $ 9.000,- instrument is rendered useless???

I think these are the questions we should worry about! -More important than the future of software upgrades.

Any comments?

I believe that this has been discussed before. The OASYS was designed and built using embedded parts, which are intended to have a significantly longer lifetime than consumer parts.

Also, different distributors will have their own procedures and time-tables for stocking parts. For instance, I have been told that Korg USA (the distributor for the USA) projects the expected need for replacement parts, and at the time of discontinuation orders parts to fill those expected needs for seven years. (DISCLAIMER: Please note that I work for Korg R&D, and do not speak for Korg USA.)

Some parts, such as the HD, are not particularly specific; I would expect (though I cannot guarantee) that any 2.5" IDE drive with similar or lower power demands would work.

well, korg is working now in a new Flagship Synth, huge, this one will be huge!!..

But I can't give you any more info...just this:

Will included an Internal removable Disk with 3 TB of capacity, and 768 Polyphony Voices to start expandable with "Software and Hardware", (not only software like O...)

The prototype I know names : "Korg Earth".

Like many you, liquidation of a large part of my studio was necessary to acquire Oasys.

I have always bought into the whole "workstation" concept and I am one of those who actually wants to (and does) use the sequencer.
When I bought my Big O six months ago, it seemed a reasonably safe assumption the sequencer would be updated at some point in time.
I had watched the sequencer debates here on this forum for well over a year and read the Wish List on several occasions. I almost posted more than once, but I realized I didn't have anything to say that hadn't been said!
I also recall many occasions when Korg stated they were watching and listening (which I'm sure they were).
I assumed that Korg would, at the very least, increase the Midi track count and up the timing resolution to 480.

Yeah, most of us thought along those lines, even more when we saw the M3 eXpanded new features regarding the Sequencer.

There was the theory running over here that Korg *could not* chage the Sequencer, because it meant to change the whole system.

With the 2.0 for the M3 we all saw that adding some features to enhance the current Sequencer were possible at all.

Korg didnt provide an update for the OASYS since the last year and a half, so we thought they were working on something, maybe along the Sequencer.

We all thought those features would come to the OASYS as well, at some point. If not the PPQ 480 resolution and the Cue List, at least the new editing M3 2.0 features like sysex editing, piano roll, and all that stuff, needed for the OASYS most, as this model has no DAW integration like the M3 has.

SO, WITH REGARD TO PRE-PAYMENT FOR A SEQUENCER UPDATE:
I absolutely, most certainly, without even the smallest doubt, am willing to pre-pay $250.00 to $500.00 for a Sequencer update.
For $250.00 I would not ask for any specific features and will gladly accept whatever Korg creates.

And let's not forget, if we don't ask, we won't know, right?

You are right.
Theres people here, as we see current users, still willing to pay for a Sequencer update, but also for new EFx (not released), new EXi , new EXs libraries, etc.

Regardless its size, theres still a market for the OASYS, even with its current hardware discontinued.
Lets hope Korg is aware of this.

Well, Depite the fact that KARO /third parties... or even
korg themselves MAY bring out more EXi/Sample libraires etc, will not hide the fact that many users on these foums want the all impoprtant sequencer update. It is "mission unacomplished" in an otherwise, great sounding workstation with a 14 year old Sequencer*


*Yes, i'm going round in circles myself, but would just like to point out that you can't have too many sounds, (perhaps) but at the cost of neglecting the sequencer?, it really dissapoints....

Why Korg dont reduce the Price for the last Oasys charge?
A discontiniued Product with no futuresupport is not worth to pay 8000$.
Look other electronic Products are also reduced 50% or so like Nikons
high end cameras after some years.

Realistically the 25 or so people here that are offering to pre-pay for sequencer updates isn't enough to make Korg change their minds.

Agreed, but they will sell alot more once the word gets out and it appears on Korgs websites.

They could easily make $500,000 or more if they sell 1000 updates.

I wonder how many Oasys were sold around the world? 4000 - 5000??

Korg have the chance to finish the Oasys project properly with one final hurrah, keep their loyal customers happy, and get abit of money back.

Very good point ... but ...

Korg were already selling $150+ dollar updates to all those people for the last few year and clearly felt it wasn't worthwhile. So why would this be any different ? See what I mean ?

My guess is that not as many people bought the previous updates as hoped, and therefore what looks to us like an ideal "captive audience" really hasn't proved to be.

Additionally in the time it might take to develop a new EXi, Korg could probably develop most of a new VST/AU which would sell way more copies and at a not dissimilar price. That's what the 'redirecting our resources' bit was saying IMO.

I want to thank all who were involved for creating this masterpiece, the world's best keyboard workstation. Stopping production will make the "cult" image of OASYS even stronger. We are truly blessed with having it. This forum is an additional gift.
