Yes thats the way I do it also... But I think it could be difficult to control the KRONOS with an other synth

I've got a Roland XV-88 as a weighted controller, above that my Kronos and then a Studiologic Sledge 2 - A simple combination that does all I need.

There's also the ARP2600 & Minimoog clones along with a decent sized modular I built for those times when I "simply must have" analogue.

I recently bought a Roland FA-06 to replace my knackered Fantom X6, but it's just sat there... unloved, and not doing anything

For me, the reality is that I could probably manage with just the Kronos and Logic X

It depends on what you want to do with it. If you just need to trigger notes, it can be done. If you want all the control of the Kronos you would have to get that from the Kronos. The Kronos is always the master in this configuration. I am NOT talking about driving external modules. I am talking about diving the Kronos with an external controller. Isn't that what nano Keys is meant to do?

it's not difficult at all. The only caveat is that to do it right, it takes up 2 combi slots. One set to EXT2 to change the program on the external controller (I always create a "blank" one that makes no sound) and then one set to INT that sets the Kronos sound. Both of these are mapped to the same midi channel. I've done this before with 2 simultaneous external controllers (one via midi cable and one via USB), along with a Nanopad and it works just fine.

As far as controlling other aspects of the Kronos, it's just a simple matter of knowing which CC# to use on the external controller (or sysex if your external controller supports it). The only thing I haven't done is control the CX3 drawbars externally (mainly because I don't have anything else in my live rig that has that many sliders).

Okay all its complicated so thats why I postetd the Thread KRONOS as a MIDI-Central... Kronos is perfect to control many soundmodules...

And that you can control KRONOS by Pad and Control is a perfect additional...
Love and peace to everyone :-)

Whatever I play on the Kronos (or M3 or M50 or Triton) is MIDI channel 1.

HIGHLY recommend this.
I think perhaps we're doing it similar, but my "top tier" board has always been the secondary. So the Kronos is my Bottom Tier.

The rest of the sentiment I totally agree with. Kronos for main sound engine, splits/layers and the 2nd board as a controller or some other unique sounds. I've never gotten such a large sound with only two boards! In the past I needed to layer like 3 racks to go with it.

I just said Kronos TOP tier for his KRONOS because the OP was doing it that way. His main board is his top tier. My Kronos is an 88 so it would HAVE To be on the bottom regardless. That thing is WAY too heavy to be on the top with something so light on the bottom.

I used to have 2 workstations for every live show and now I'm using just a workstation and a controller. It was overkill for what I really needed. I still throw the 2nd workstation in the car for a show as a backup but it doesn't make it on stage anymore. I *JUST* picked up a Nektar IMpact LX88 and it's a pretty decent controller for the price. If it could allow my to program SYSEX into it it would be amazing. I wanted to have each slider be voices 1 thru 8 volume and the buttons below be on and off for each voice. But without SYSEX I can't. :( It's getting harder and harder to buy a good controller because fewer and fewer have MIDI ports on them.

I'm looking at a Access Virus TI2 also and wondered if anyone has played it comparison wise to the Korg. Please note: I'm leaning very heavily toward the Korg, but wanted to ask about the Virus.

Thanks all!
I am not sure what you ended up going for in the end - but I have just added a prophet 6 to my Kronos 88 - and I think it works really well - its a very simple hands on interface - and sounds lovely - in fact its hard to get a poor sound - great unison feature which practically covers all the monophonic needs too. I looked at the Virus but it sounded no better (in fact worse to me) than the Kronos or a bunch of good soft synths.

FWIW I have a Nord Stage II on top of the K2-61. I use the Nord for most of the organ work. The piano on the Nord and about 40 custom synth/sample patches along the fantastic Kronos give me everything I need.
Kronos2-61..(2) Triton Classic, Nord Stage 2, Previously owned lots of other gear dating back to the 70’s.

I am considering the Nord E5D, Hammond Sk1, or Crumar Mojo. Probably will go with the Nord E5D SW because the Eps and pianos are useable for me. Not sure i would be happy with the pianos on the SK1 or Mojo but I would prefer the Mojo just for organ. Decisions
K2 Kronos 88, Mojo 61, Korg CX3, Roland FANTOM 7

Funny Inwas looking for a complimentary board and grid the Analog Keys for very short while but because of mney had to return it. Al is good though as I picked up a Minitaur last year when that happened and it is a great addition to the Kronos.
