RH3 Keybed Information

I live in Indonesia
I have Kronos 73

Until now my dealer haven't repace my kronos keybed yet
and it's been 6 month

what should I do ?

Just wanna share my experience of the process of selling my Kronos 73, which already has the fully replaced keybed and is still under warranty until Sep 2012. Also memory is maxed out at 4gb.

I have posted on eBay three times now and finally sold it, for $2500 plus shipping. I started at $2800 and didn't get a buyer until I posted it for a third time, and at the $2500 price. That's a $1000 loss on a 8 month old keyboard that's still under warranty. And in mint, as new condition.

I truly believe resale value of the Kronos weighted boards has been affected by the quality control problems at Korg.

Anyone looking to sell their weighted Kronos, be prepared to take a big hit.

You should buy the parts yourself. Check pages 19-21 for information about this.

For me the biggest thing that puts me off buying a used Kronos is the fact that in the UK, the 3 year warranty only applies to the first purchaser and is not transferrable to any body else. It's clear and unambiguous and listed on the Korg UK website. The keybed issue only serves to highlight the fact that there can be problems and the risks of buying a Kronos so I for one would only do it if there was a material reduction in price from new. That said, now they have sorted out the keybed, I am planning on buying a new one.

If you haven't bought one yet, make sure you shop around before you do buy.

Even though the price you pay no matter where you get it from is likely to be the same you might get lucky, like I did when I bought my 73 from Gear4music, who by chance had a promotion on at the time (a couple of months ago now) whereby they offered a free 5 year extended warranty over the period of a weekend, which is also transferrable should you ever decide to sell.

You might even consider paying for this (£223 if I remember right) for the extra peace of mind you get from it. Certainly no harm in trying a bit of haggling either...

I checked with the Korg support, if they'd be able to perform the keybed repair. They answered promptly that they can do and asked me to organize the shipping with my local dealer. My dealer checked when the parts would be available and I handed my Kronos in accordingly.

1. When and where you had the repair performed
I brought the Kronos to my dealer early May and got it back 10 days later. It was repaired at Music Meyer in Marburg, Germany

2. Which model (73 or 88 )
It's a Kronos 73

3. Any information you were told about the specific repair made
They changed the key contacts.
At the same time they inserted 1GB additional memory, supplied by me.

4. The results -- did the fix work?
Yes - no cut off notes anymore

5. Serial Number (optional)
27##

I'm now even more satisfied with that phantastic instrument and the service of my dealer (Musikhaus Lange) and of Korg support could not have been better.

I took my Kronos 88 to get repaired about a month ago and it still hasn't been completed. I don't want to name the repair center but they did say that the parts for the repair are on back order - has anyone else had that problem?

I had that problem and I even put the link to the repair center two pages ago. There's no reason for you that stops you putting that information. I
Think this way is better so we can know where you get this fixed faster.

i was told to have a complete new keybed

keys do still bounce as hell, but the double trigger effect is hard to reproduce now.

BUT if i play longer piano pieces, they still occur once in a while
also occurs when i play funky pieces with organ patches.,.

also, the keyboard is not able to reach velocity level 127. i tried curve 4 and 9, the other curves are unusable for me... if i play it with a different midicontroller, its way more expressive.. the hardest notes (120-127) cannot be reached with my kronos.

I dont know wheter this problem is caused by the keybed replacement, or its just bad programming of the curves.. i had the same problem with my m3-73, and this drives me crazy..

i have it for sale now and will lose more than 1000 euro

i am extreeeeeemely disappointed in korg and indescribably frustrated with my korg kronos. (and it hit me hard financially.) BECAUSE it has no doubt, the best sound engine of all at this moment.
