I've never used my Wavestation EX to it's full potential. I know this for an absolute fact. I'm on my second one now and have been for at least 14 years. I have to admit that I find it crazy that you can't just port over the sounds even via Sysex.
I do know that the Mod-7 will accept old Yamaha DX-7 data.
It kind of sounds a bit unreasonable for the latest and greatest Korg to not be able to handle Wavestation data.
Maybe there is a way. I'm going to have to think about this.
The only thing that I do know is that even if I can't port my sounds over, I can still play them on my EX.

I am going to begin recreating a few of my favorite songs that I wrote a few years ago utilizing patches from my WS. I am not good enough to recreate some of the patches from the WS on my Kronos yet. So I do know how some of you feel; maybe it is not completely possible to do so.

Kronos 2 61, Wavestation A/D, Yamaha Genos and others.
Do you have some of the patches available in SysEx? I may be able to manually convert a few as an exercise... Do you use any expansion cards for your patches or are they all stock waves?
Cheers!
Cheers!

To make a sys/ex file you just do a data dump onto anything that will store midi data. I use my old Yamaha QX-3 sequencer.

And since we're all working with Kronoses here it might be that much easier to dump to the Kronos and copy via USB.

Maybe if Danatkorg see's this he can tell us if it will work. I have to say I kind pf doubt it. But then again. Who knows?

I've dumped out the wave sequences form the Kronos but I get a bunch of errors. For instance, the multisample number seems to be losing a bit so instead of getting 49E(hex) I get 41E. Also I sometimes get an extra byte in the number. This happened in the old OS and in 2.0.6 though the format changed considerably between the two. I get the same problems with different hardware and different computers, and using MIDI or USB, so I don't think it's me. Incidentally, the last time I mentioned bugs in the dump I got jumped all over, including a nasty email from a certain Korg employee, so I've been reluctant to post lately.

I can completely understand your apprehension.Cpilot wrote:I've dumped out the wave sequences form the Kronos but I get a bunch of errors. I'd feel the same way myself.

There are indeed a lot of changes between 1.5/1.6 and 2.x. The reason for this is the increase of the program banks U-AA to U-GG, and also the increase of the possible wave sequences and multisamples.Cpilot wrote:. I will not go into details but the implementation in 2.x is a lot cleaner than the 1.5/1.6.
The sysex format is in no way guaranteed to be backwards compatible, neither is the PCG file format.
