I'm about to buy more RAM and I'm curious about the 3Gb restriction.
Is this a hardware architectural limitation or is it just the current OS such that a future OS update might allow the full 4Gb?
Thanks,
D

It's an OS limitation, but don't assume it will be updated for the Kronos in a future OS (at least not in Kronos or Kronos X).dhjdhj wrote:I'm about to buy more RAM and I'm curious about the 3Gb restriction.

For that, a 64 bit OS (Linux) is needed and the chance for Korg upgrading the OS to a 64 instead of 32 bit OS is very unlikely. It's not just a matter of the OS but also drivers need to be updates normally.

Probably not, however I don't know Korg's future plans.dhjdhj wrote:Thanks --- so there really is no point in buying a 2G DIMM in anticipation of future access to the 4th Gb

Maybe for the Kronos 2 or whatever, but then maybe some other type of RAM might be used.

Hello! Please let me know is this the one..:

I have a question from those who have actually installed one pair of 2 GB each RAM sticks for a total of 4 GB. Are you actually seeing 3 GB in your info screen, or are you seeing 3.25 GB?
The reason i am asking this question is that I first installed one stick of 1 GB. I got 3 GB total. Worked with that for a few day. I had read somewhere that since the OS is 32 bit it reads 3.25 GB if you install 4 GB. So I got greedy and thought I like to have 3.25 GB. I ordered a 2 GB stick from eBay and installed it upon receiving, without looking at the capacity written on the stick. After I installed it, I noticed I still had 3 GB in the info screen and not 3.25 as I had expected. So now I am not sure if the 2 GB stick that I had bought from eBay may have been 1 GB instead of it and I had installed it without looking at it.
By the way, the reason I did not look at it is because I was too exited to install a SSD that I had bought as well. I was focused on the SSD and trying to find a SATA cable with the right length and my focus was not on the RAM. That's why I did not look to make sure of the capacity.
So I repeat my question from those who have actually installed one pair of 2 GB each RAM sticks for a total of 4 GB. Are you actually seeing 3 GB in your info screen, or are you seeing 3.25 GB?
Please let me know. Thanks.

Just installed this ram purchased from New Egg for $41 and it worked perfectly: Kingston 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory Model KVR800D2N6/2G
Total ram amount: 3.25gb
Also, cloned hard drive to 80gb which took a few attempts.
Upgraded to 2.1 and installed new CX-3 organ sounds.
My life is complete for a little while.
