About loading samples which takes around 1 (or more) of the 2 minutes: this might be possible to be delayed loading, of course with the 'effect' that in the beginning only the OS is active without sounds.

Possibly this will not be implemented, because users expect to use it instantly with all sounds as soon as they see an active GUI.

wow I forgot checking this thread after a while and it is 4 pages now with lots of consumption calculations and politics, etc :D

Well although electricity prices here are probably much higher than yours, the main problem for me is the noise. I have a studio room but I like keeping Kronos in my bedroom and it is impossible to sleep while it is on =)

I power mine off when I'm done playing or programming, simply because I don't want to leave it electrically exposed to the outside world (even with power conditioning), and I want to know how its going to boot up cold after whatever I did in software! I even unplug the power from the wall...no safer hedge against power-related issues I know of!

You haven't installed a quieter fan yet? It's an easy, inexpensive fix to the noise problem - see the fan noise thread for (endless) discussion, what fan to buy, etc., etc....

Its funny that the real issue in this post for me is the amount of. T iMe it takes to boot up...i play in big venues (small ones too!) if the Kronos powers down due to a generator or a power drop on an outdoor stage for instance or for any reason, and this DOES happen, I have to find a way to not be stuck for for the longest 2:45 seconds of my life while the Kronos boots up...im sure this topic has been covered....any suggestions for setting up with minimal samples and perhaps just the german grand and my specific patches?!
Thanks for any help, ill do more research and try to refine my search queries as i get 6234 results on the topic!

Having played a lot of big stages, and small ones, I do know that al too often the power goes for a poop! The only real suggestion that I can make is to have a second keyboard. Even if it;s just an inexpensive thing. as long as you can play something; anything!
In Austria in frontof 7,000 people we had a huge pwer surge. Fortunately I had very good surge protection so my keyboards were saved but the surge protector saved them at the cost of it's life!

Of coures I didn't have a bakcup surge protector so I had to play the rest of the gig terified!

Why not get a decent UPS and not go down at all?

We do all fly dates a decent UPS probably weighs a lot! No thanks on the excess baggage fees. More concerned about Kronos Load up time as after switching from the triton and the 15 seconds it took to load. But Of course i cant turn back now that i have the latest and greatest! :P

Is there any chance you can have the back line company supply a UPS? I imagine that it wouldn't be too hard to get that into the rider.

I bought a Cyber Power Battery Backup 425VA 255 watts. 25 Minutes of backup power at 50 watts. (Kronos is 60 watts)

Weighs 4 pounds.

Saved me several times now with brief power outages.

In your situation, traveling without a UPS would be like not having a flight case. It's part of the cost of traveling from venue to venue. I don't blame you for not wanting extra baggage fees, but I don't see how it's avoidable.

This one?

I was under the impression I needed to spend at least $100 to get enough protection, but if this works I'll probably spring for it.
