Quick piano mode
Just a dream but; wouldn't it be great if kronos had a quick piano startup mode in which you don't have to wait to load for 4 minutes. With only one piano sound for example the default Kronos German Grand that loads very quick when you turn the device on. You can't change any parameters and instead just play it. Sometimes it feels like waiting for a computer to turn on just to check your mails =)

Why not make a stripped Preload.KSC and/or have only the German Grand loaded at start up? (Global Settings / KSC Autoload)
That will make start up times faster, probably approaching 1 minute
You can load the other KSC's or full Preload if desired always seperately after switching on

I shut down both Kronos and my computer every time I stop working with them. If I know I will get back to the computer within couple of hours, I put it into "suspend" mode instead of completely shutting it down. It definitely saves energy and reduces noise. Not sure how it affects the lifetime expectancy of the devices.StephenKay wrote:Why would you turn on your computer just to check emails? That would imply you turned it off at some point. Why would you do that? Please don't tell me you shut it off every night before you go to bed.
Is Kronos even designed to be turned on for weeks at a time?
I only turn my K88 off during thunder storms, or when I leave home for more than a day at a time (with or without my Kronos).Gambler wrote:

The only issue I have had, is that the SSD I'm using is somewhat picky about "power saving" - So I've had the occational hang on sample streaming.
That has resolved itself just by selecting a different preset.

Absolutely. I shut down all my gear, mac, monitor every night or when I will be away all day.Stephen Garside wrote:There are a lot of people who do shut off their PC's and kronoses every night, myself included. In my country at least there are a lot of people who care about the conservation of energy for the sake of the planet.
I also shut down my wireless network if I am away for most of the day or out of town. Power surges do happen and I want to prevent damage/accidents. I am not completely convinced that the various surge protectors are perfect for preventing surges, etc.
My computer stays on pretty constantly. My Kronos, on the other hand, does a lot of traveling to rehearsals and gigs, so it gets shut down all the time. Have had a few times where I definitely wish the boot process was quicker.

The power consumption of the Kronos is listed as 60 W , which (if I leave it on) would come down to 1.44 KWh per day. This is almost 10% of my family household energy consumption, so in my view not trivial.
Also, for info: electricity prices in the US are 2-4 times lower than in Europe, so apart from environmental/planet saving reasons, there are financial issues as well...

Not at all. I don't shut down my computers for months at a time (unless I travel). I don't mind paying for my electricity.SanderXpander wrote:I kinda assumed Stephen was joking. Maybe not.
I work with sometimes 20 different programs open and in the middle of various projects. I'm not going to shut down all of that stuff every night. Just trying to get back to where I was would take an hour. Secondly, I have about 6 computers here with software projects and testing going on. During the night is when my backup programs backup all the data.
I understand that for many people the situation might be different.
I also tend not to shut off the various keyboards I'm actively working with. I'll shut them off if I'm not using them and don't plan to for awhile. I remember hearing that turning electronic devices on and off was more stressful to them than just leaving them running. Probably an old wive's tale, but nonetheless, my keyboards are ready to go when I need them.

According to this calculator, if you pay $.10 per kilowatt hour (I pay less than that here in NJ, like .06), and you left a 60w device on 24 hours a day for an entire year, it would cost 14 cents per day and $52 for the entire year:AdDeRoo wrote:The power consumption of the Kronos is listed as 60 W , which (if I leave it on) would come down to 1.44 KWh per day.
