I'm not criticizing SQ for not offering a free 64 bit editor. I'm criticizing Korg for not negotiating one in their deal with SQ. I'm criticizing SQ for not offering a cheaper alternative (MQ solo?) for those who don't need/want MQ Pro but would like to use their editor in a 64-bit DAW.

If people are not grateful for having a free editor, it's their problem. Personally, I'd rather have one than none, even if it's not the best version there is. The glass half-full/half-empty point of view. I'd rather concentrate on what I can do with it rather than what I cannot, which is only using it as a VST with a DAW anyway. Not a big deal for many.

As for criticising SQ, fair enough, but no need to be rude or childish about it. And I'm not just saying this in reply to this particular thread, but also to all the other threads that routinely do "SQ-bashing" here. It's that moan, moan, moan attitude all the time that prompted me to reply to this thread. Particularly since Michael takes time to answer questions here, even though he hardly gets a thank you for it.

I'm not saying any more on this topic.

The only problem I have with that is that you keep calling the editor "free", which it is decidedly not. It is advertised and included as part of a 3K package. In this day and age, it is entirely reasonable to expect 64 bit compliance. If it would work even only through bridging there wouldn't be half the complaints there are now. It's pretty hard (impossible?) to find out from the advertising it doesn't work in a 64 bit DAW at all. The editor is clearly not very important to you. Nor is it to me. But for quite a few users it is very important and I think it's quite reasonable that they're upset at the current state of affairs.

I have nothing against Michael, to me it seems like a bad business decision on their part to not offer a cheaper 64 bit alternative to Kronos owners. It's a shame and something that can only frustrate those who really want a VST editor.
But they're free to set their prices however they want.

Sorry, but in my opinion what is childish is to keep asserting this is a "Free" editor. Take a look at the Korg page it is listed as a "Kronos X Highlight" ahead of several other features including USB, Keybed and touchscreen.

I would feel the same if any of the highlights of the products didn't work. To try and pretend (because it is inferior) it was "free" is a fallacy. That is like saying when my keybed didn't work I shouldn't complain because it was "free" (it comes after the editor in the highlights page) - if something has such a basic limitation it should at least be listed that it has that limitation so users can make informed decisions.

Trying to be constructive:

To Michael at soundquest: is there any plan to publish a kind of x64 Unisyn for Kronos or the like? If yes, a groupbuy can be easily created here.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Totally separate topic btw, but if the fellows at Korg could get the K to support OSC I'm sure we'd have a whole bunch of free editors popping up in no time.

Indeed a great idea. I'm using OSC since almost 2 years and it's simply great. Good point :) :!:

It seems entirely feasible. There are Linux APIs already available. Compared to other synths and workstations, the Kronos especially seems very well equipped to start supporting it.
